Unbelievable High Prices Who is Buying

Yeah there have been panics that amounted to nothing. But there was at least one ban before that had SKS's going from $99 in Shotgun News to $400 a month later. And this ban, this time, I don't think is going to be like the previous ban. No bayonet lugs and flash hiders as "cut 'em off and sell" features this time.

You care to be more specific?

Oh I'm always willing to expound on my opinion.

What I meant was is that in the 1994 ban, people got very upset at the idea that AK47's, and AR15's were going to "cease to exist". But the reality turned out to be a little different. Bayonet lugs and flash hiders counted as 'evil features' on any new guns to be made. Those made them "military rifles". So manufacturers got around the ban on making them by leaving those 2 features out of product...but keeping the ability to accept a hi cap mag. So those guns made after the ban didn't have bayonet lugs and flash hiders, but they could use a 30rd surplus magazine...assuming you could find one. These post-ban guns served to reduce the prices on pre-ban guns after the ban took effect.

This time I don't think that is going to work. I think this time the measure will be "is it semi automatic and takes a detachable magazine of greater than x rounds (10 most likely)"? If it is, then I think no new ones will be allowed to be made except for the military. And I think there will be NO getting around it. That was a mistake Democrats made. They won't make it again. That means all the semi autos out here now may be the only ones ever legal from now on.

This sucks for me, as I am a young gun owner

Then don't look for the items that panic idiots are going after. A 38 will kill as well as a 9mm and is easier to find. A bolt action or lever action 223 or 243 will also accomplish the same task

I'm not buying. It's crazy out there. Too much emotion and speculation. If I do buy anything, it will be of the mundane, not inflated variety.

Things is if you want to keep shooting then you have to buy the ammo. Yeah you can shoot what you have on hand but what happens when that runs out. You end up like me. I'm down to less than 1,000 rounds of 45ACP and now I don't have enough ammo for practice and matches. I couldn't even replace the 22lr I shot yesterday as the LGS is out of it.

Oh well its time to hit the LGS to see what they have available.

Exactly. That's what I did in '94 too.

One of my favorite rifles is a Browning falling block in 22 Hornet. I've noticed there's plenty of ammo available for that.

But I haven't heard of anyone on a thread stating that, 'I just bought an HK 556 for $9600! Cool, eh?'.
That is, there are lots of folks asking these lofty prices and some almost certainly have sold, given the lack of stock at most places, but I'm still wondering if there was just a very quick flash of outrageous purchases, and now many folks are trying to cash in their own guns only to find that there were many fewer fools than once thought.
I have no data on either side. I don't know how to manipulate GB to looks for average sale price of a given gun type between two dates, etc. But it would be an interesting check.
Any objective comments from someone with statistically significant data? Just curious as to what's going on our there.
BTW, I have one or two pieces that I've considered selling, to replace with bolt guns - in case that AR designs become worthless. But decided that I'd rather hold on to them and see what happens.
Interesting times.

Saw an new HK in 5.56 sell for $9600 on gunbroker. Amazing...
