I was considering a Sig P6, <snip> and the DA trigger pull is in need of help too
I'm really not sure what the problem is with the triggers in the P6.

It's a defensive handgun.

A heavy trigger pull is not out of line in a defensive handgun.

For Pete's sake, you only have to squeeze it once per firing session, after that, it's all single action.

I think the 14 to 16 Lbs trigger is a bit much for a defensive gun. That can get you killed. Plus there are no mags in country right now. I sold off some extras to a few guys here but there are almost none available for under $50.

Plus the earlier guns do not like hollow points as a rule. To me that is 3 strikes against the P6. And I own a P225 so its not like I don't like the platform.

Of the many pistols mentioned in this thread, which have inexpensive, reliable, readily available magazines?
Ruger 9mm mags are available anywhere for about $16.

I have both a P95 and an FNP-9, with night sights on the FN. The Ruger is a great pistol, extremely reliable, and I have no reason to doubt that it will still be working like new long after I'm dead.

The FNP-9 on the other hand is simply one of the finest weapons I have ever owned. I paid $449 for mine almost a year ago. (the Trijicons were added later)

Believe it or not I know where you can get a Beretta tutone 9mm 92FS for $420 shipped.

That is NIB. I would put that on the list too.

Sig P6 for $259. Get 'em while you can. For range use, two mags is plenty. and the trigger pull ain't that bad, if you've ever shot a revolver DA- there ya go.

S&W Sigma 9VE, new in box with either 3 or 4 mags depending on what S&Ws offer is du jour- $249 around here. Of course, also has a heavy trigger.

Ruger "P" series- used for under $300.

HiPoint C9- $150 new, two mags. Ugly, but they work, and lifetime warranty.

Smith 3913, or something like that, LEO trade for under $300.

Springfield XD9- can get 'em used for $350 if you look. (mine was).

Police trade Glock 19 or 17- they are out there for $350'ish, if surface finish is not something you are worried about.

KelTec P11- New, for under $300.

Bersa 9mm- new, around $325

this is my .40, but the 9mm comes in the exact same size frame and barrel
(4"). A great gun, and I got it for $390 brand new!

100% Sig

SCP firearms is running an awesome special on the 9mm Sig Pro 2022 for $479 shipped with 3 mags. 600 rounds through mine now and i can tell you it's a true SIG. Agreed by many to be the most under-rated gun on the market. Great SA trigger. Very accurate. And if you're buddy is retired military, he qualifies for SIG's $50 rebate which will get you down under $450. Here's the deal. (still running as of july 08)

If i could do it over again, I would choose a CZ75 with trigger job over the P226. CZ's are awesome. If you want a polymer (new), look at the FNP or Steyr.

Can't believe that nobody has mentioned the p92 yet.

you can get one surplus from any number of police departments and with the sheer numbers of them out there... they are easy to find any accessories you may want.

Maybe I am shopping at the wrong places but where are you guys buying NIB CZ 75B for under $450 OTD

CZs are still relatively inexpensive through the major stocking dealers like Bud's, Whittaker's, and Ghostholster (Angus).

These are his "internet" prices. You aren't paying sales tax, just shipping and transfer fees, so it will come in just over $450. He charges less for cash transactions. (The "internet" price reflects a 3%-4% increase to offset credit card company charges.) If you made arrangements to purchase via money order, it should come in right around $450 for a polycoat 75B.

That said, there have been some other excellent suggestions.

S&W and CZ magazines cost about $20, if you buy them from the right sources. Ruger mags are usually a little less. The FNP pistols have expensive mags, but they come with three. The Beretta/Stoeger Cougar may have cheap mags available from Mec-Gar (not sure).

CZ 75 B cal. 9 mm Luger, black polycoat, NO MAGAZINES - RSR ONLY $368.99

holy crap! what's RSR mean? i don't need no mags. just a plain ol' CZ in a plastic bag and bubble wrap is all i need! :)

Theoretically, CZ doesn't have wholesalers. All of the guns have to be ordered from CZ-USA in Kansas City.

In reality, CZ-USA has used RSR as a wholesaler for some of their small production run pistols and "odd lots."

I would call to get the lowdown. I wouldn't be surprised if these are '96 Mils that had the magazines pulled so that the promotional guns could be sold with a 15 round magazine. It's probably something like that.

Obviously, you can get a 75B OTD for well under $450 if you went this route and bought 2-3 MecGar magazines.

Check out the Bersa Thunder 9. I have one of these I use for a range gun. Very accurate and a great shooter. Shoots even getter than my SP.XD9 serv. You can't go wrong for the price.

oh man, that's a killer deal on a 9mm CZ-75!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111

if they had that kind of deal on a compact, i'd be sleeping on the couch for buying it but it'd totally be worth it! :D

If it is a military contract pistol, it is even a better deal. MY Turkish Mil is definitely the one pistol I truly regret selling. (My buddy won't even trade it back for the gun he gave: a 1954 Tula SKS.)

Thanks to ALL for the recommendations and comments.
My friend NOW has an idea of cost and opinions from other shooters.
He's got the ball.

Under $400 there's a lot of choices. If it were me I'd be looking at a Ruger P89 or P95. New those should be in your range. Used, Glock or XD could probably be found under $400.

Prices in your market may vary from what you hear from Innernet gunboard pooled ignorance.
