I have a Rem Mod 700 in 22-250 and it has a Unertl Scope on it. The Scope is a 2 inch target model purchased in the early '80's. When I sent a couple of shots down range at 100 yds I was way off. I moved the target to 25 yds to better walk it in, however, the target was blurry. I am unfamiliar with Unertl scopes andnot sure how to focus it. (It was in focus for 100 yds). I am also unsure of the purpose of the Recoil Spring and/or how it should be set. I have the owner's manual but I find it lacking depth. Any advice?

Rich,

Welcome to the forum.

The Unertl 2" Target is a superb, valuable scope.

To focus the scope loosen the lock ring on the objective (front) of the scope and then turn the parallax adjusting ring to the yardage where your target is and then lock the ring again.

After that focus the ocular (rear) of the scope so that the crosshairs are sharp.

The recoil spring is not an issue. Adjust it so that the eye relief is correct for you and leave it just touching.

Thanks for the info Savage99. I tried to rotate the objective to 25yds and still had items fuzzy at 25yds, but I could see at a 100 yds clearly on the same setting...

Did you adjust the rear eyepiece for your vision like Savage99 posted?

To properly do that, set the front objective on infinity.

The quickly pull the rifle up and look at the clear sky.
If the cross hairs are not perfectly sharp, adjust the rear eyepiece.

But not while looking through the scope.

Your eye will try to compensate for the out of focus lens faster then you can screw it in and out.

Just keep pulling it up and look at the sky.
Then bring it down, adjust a little, and do it again over and over.

Sooner or later you will find the sweet spot for your vision.
