I have a UNERTL scope I know little about. I believe it is 8 power. it is just over 19" long with a 1" eyepiece and a 1-1/4" objective lens. For reticle it has a fine wire that supports a small dot. The mounts are aluminum with the rear one having micrometer type adjustments. It has a large spring on a rail along the front half, (for recoil?). Can anyone out there give me some info? I believe it is new as there are no scratches anywhere to be found and the micrometer screws have a paper covering beneath them, along with some factory stickers. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info echo3mike. I will call that guy. His web page was a big help. Once again, the fellow shooters come through for one in need of info!!

"I thought the early snipers used Unertyl scopes. I think I rember seeing that name numerous times reading "One Shot, One Kill"

They did. The old Unertl was standard issue with the Marines on the 1903A1. They took the scope return spring off, for whatever reason, and the shooter had to pull the scope back by hand for each shot.

They were also used in the early days of Vietnam.

I like those scopes.

Hi Mike:
Some riflemen are concerned that the recoil spring might fail to bring scope all the way back against the stop so remove the spring and return by hand after each shot in the interest of accuracy.

My problem is sometimes forgetting to pull scope back, so I am better off trusting the spring!:) Agree they are great scopes.

Thanks!, I appreciate the info. :D

IIRC it was in the book "Marine Sniper" that I saw a picture of a Unertl target scope mounted on a Browning 50 cal. MG in Vietnam. The ultimate long range "rifle".

Use a 2", 20X Unertl on both smallbore and HP target rifles. Only complaint is the weight when added to already heavy rifles, but scope is 100 % repeatable and you don't need a spotting scope to see bullet holes.:)
