I am BIG fan of Unique except for the metering part. I can never get an exact throw except from my Old Lyman 55. How close is Universal in performance ?

Universal's performance is excellent but good luck finding any. It meters very well and burns pretty clean.
BE-86 also has Uniques burn rate and Power Pistol composition. It's recently been released from Alliant and so far has proven to be excellent.

It used to be my "go to pistol powder". Now I go to and it isn't there. From what I've seen it is next to impossible to find.

Nowadays HP38 is my "go to" pistol powder. I also shoot a little Titegroup.

When I found HP38 I bought a five pound jug, then I bought three pounds of Titegroup.

Should last a while.

Now it's 2015 for Universal's return.

Universal is nice, it meters very well and burns very clean at/near full power, but it does not do reduced loads as well as Unique. At low power I get erratic velocities and a lot of unburned powder.

Works Swell in a 40 cal.

Tried Unique in my 40 S&W and was not impressed but I must confess that the loads were pretty hot. I went to Universal, loaded some 170gr lswc at 950 fps and it got through several IDPA matches in good standing. Burns cleaner than Unique.

Universal is accurate in my 229 but I don't like the unburnt powder blowing-back in my face and on my arms. When increasing the charge for a complete burn accuracy goes out the window. Since acquiring a couple of 357 Sigs I rarely shoot the 40 anymore.
