Surprised no one has posted about this, but I saw on CNN this morning that the University of Nevada Board of Regents has agreed to put CCW's for professors to a vote.

As far as I know this would be the first state university to bring things this far.

Should be interesting to see how this turns out....

Getting the Board of Regents to agree is probably the easy part. To actually be allowed to carry, the faculty member must attend a 20 week training course at a cost of about $3,500. You basically become a reserve campus policeman. You will be required to meet all the requirements the campus police do, including the physical and weight restrictions.

From what I understand, the faculty member can request administrative leave and their college may pay the cost. At the end of the training you will also have to agree to voluteer one weekend a month as a reserve campus police officer. The reserve officer requirement may not be correct, I heard this on another board.

I hope it passes, but I don't see very many individuals taking the time to do the training.

It may not be a perfect start, but it's a start. Incremental steps like this have worked well for the other side for so long, there's no reason to think it will not work for us.

Oh that sounds essentially worthless then. If it won't recognize state issued permits I don't think I would call it a start or a victory but just an attempt to appease carry rights advocates while actually giving them nothing.

The board of regents are going to vote on it, I'm not sure how big the board is. I've been hearing a little about it today on local radio.

That ALMOST makes me want to transfer to UNR. Almost.

(I could have gone to UNR on the Millenium Scholarship, but I didn't really like Reno that much).

I'm turning in my resignation tomorrow and heading West. Time to be a professor where there is genuine intelligence!

Utah already allows CCW for faculty, students, employees and anyone else with a permit who wanders on campus.:D
