On May 17th I had rotator cuff repair. Today marks the 4th month of recovery. I was quite worried about the result and it's impact on my ability to shoot. So here's the 4 month update. Happy to report that I have regained about 98% of my range of motion. I've been hunting a couple of times and to the rifle range many times, all in the last month. Shot my Benelli 20 ga at doves, but not many targets, so didn't get much of a test. However this past week I got a really good test. I shot prairie dogs for 3 days. Of course my 17HMR and 22 Hornet have little recoil, so for sure no problems. I shot 100 rds of .223; not heavy recoil, but noticeable. I worked hard to seat the rifle properly in the hollow of my shoulder and mostly avoided getting sloppy. I say mostly....a few times the butt of the rifle would slide outward (as I swung the rifle to the left) and stop on the point of my shoulder. That was an ouch and reminded me to be careful. I was sore for a couple of days and now feel just fine.. Another good thing. In order to assure myself that the rifle was properly seated on my shoulder, I pulled the rifle firmly into my shoulder to get a good grip. Normally I would seek to relax. Interestingly, I found that I shot better since I could squeeze the trigger better and hold the crosshair more firmly on the target. The net result was that I killed 320 prairie dogs; a good result indeed. Thought you guys would like to know.

Glad to hear your back at it and things are getting better. 320 prairie dogs? Man that's a workout for sure.

I'm glad things are going well for you. I'm confident that in time you won't even notice the recoil of a .223. I have a Remington rolling block replica in 50-140-550 Sharps caliber. Five years after rotator cuff surgery I'm still very careful with stock placement. In the cup of my shoulder is no problem except the recoil is stiff to say the least. Let it get a little far out where it's sitting on one of those Christmas trees they stuck in your shoulder to tie to and it smarts enough that you will remember not to do it again. Once was enough for me.
