Am loving my Colt Series 80 Commander, but considering switching out the stock Colt trigger to something ... sexier?

What are your preferences for a carry 1911, and why? How many of you went for a short trigger in a carry piece? Any recommendations.

Two I am considering are a lightweight K trigger, or the Nighthawk Custom match grade trigger (based on appearance at the moment).

Finally, while I could likely do the work myself (understanding that some fitting will likely be required), would you lean towards having a professional/smith do the work since this is a carry pistol...

This is the first point to consider. The 1911 is not a Glock or AR. Parts don't just drop in a 1911 like they do with a Glock or AR. I'm not a gunsmith, and lack both the skills and the tools to do it properly. i'd send my 1911 to a gunsmith.

If I were changing out my trigger, I'd go with a short trigger. I have a medium length trigger on my 1911 and it's one of those things that I've adjusted to, but if I were making a change, I'd choose a short trigger.

As to which trigger, I'd tell my gunsmith I want a short trigger (or whatever length trigger you want), and whether I want a smooth or serrated face on the trigger, and let them pick the trigger they think is best for your application. They know what they're doing (at least they should), and will probably make a better choice than you.

I'm comfortable I could do the work on the Commander, but since this is an EDC piece, I agree that I might probably be more comfortable if a professional did the work.

The gunsmiths I work with though have suggested may options (mostly what they stock in the store, of course). So this is still an open question, and want to hear what other THR folks may have used.
