Always a fan of the .40 S&W, never a fan of it in a sub compact.

Today I retired my XD Sub Compact in .40 S&W and picked up a Springfield EMP in .40 S&W and I couldn't be happier. Sure it's heavier, but that makes it that more pleasant to shoot. Only shot a box of 50 so far and I enjoy how it shoots compared to the SC, so much more controllable.

Initial impressions are if you want a compact .40, the EMP is worth checking out as long as you are not counting your pennies. I really can't wait until I get a couple more hundred rounds through it and start packing it.

EDIT: Put another 150 rounds through it, loving it even more. Not a single jam, used a mix of FMJ, PDX1s, and Golddots.

I made almost the exact same move, except I replaced my XD40-SC with an EMP-9. I like .40S&W, but I want to worry about having one less caliber to buy so I'm sticking with 9mm and .45ACP for now.

I shot mine for the first time today, 250 Federal and WWB FMJ rounds with ZERO malfs, it's already my favorite gun. But as my friend pointed out, for the price I paid it BETTER be a sweet shooting pistol

I hate seeing these threads. I have 3 EMPs saved in my watching list on gunbroker. I want to get one so bad but they are just a little bit out of the price range for now. Maybe Layaway :)

Might pickup another EMP, in 9...

So far I love shooting it. Compared to other sub compact forties I've shot, Glock G27, Kahr CW40, Springfield XDSC 40, and a CZ 2075 Rami... the EMP 40 is by far the best shooting of the bunch.

Only issue, I hate carrying it. Unloaded the thing is 2 lbs and I am not used to having to wear a belt just to carry my CCW. Shedding half a pound moving to the EMP9 is looking like a great idea.

I have one I carry, but the weight can be an issue. I also have a SA Compact I had rebuilt and it is much lighter in a .45 fully loaded than the EMP. The EMP is a great gun to shoot.

You need a real gun belt. Makes a HUGE difference in how much you feel the weight.

IMHO Springfield Armory makes the best standard production 1911s on the market. You get "alot of gun" for your money with their products. It is possible to get a few more bells and whistles for the price elsewhere but the quality standards are not as high.

In regards to the weight, a heavy gun is a heavy gun. Good belt or not, I am not a fan of carrying a heavy or bulky gun for ccw. I don't know about the rest of you BUT there is ALREADY enough extra weight and inches around my midsection without the help of my ccw pistol. :D

I always prefered the 9mm to the .40sw (like .45acp better too) because you don't gain enough performance (especially with modern premium hollowpoint designs) to
sacrifice the capacity. Also, I find the "dull straightback" recoil from a .45acp to be less difficult to control than the "sharp snappy" recoil from the .40sw. The recoil thing could just be in my head. However, it seems to be consistantly the same for me even when shooting the two calibers from the exact same type of gun.

I just ordered a bunch of 147 grain +P HSTs, I'm going to buy some more FMJ and shoot the crap out of this little gun when the HSTs get here. If the HSTs feed reliably they'll be my carry ammo. Thank God all my New Agent holsters work for this gun! No need to buy new gear!

A quality holster made a huge difference. The heft is still there, but using a more rigid holster has made it so much more comfortable to carry. With jeans and a belt it feels great.

I almost wish Springfield used the nine's aluminium frame Vs. the forty's steel. Granted the extra 6 ounces help make it a nice shooting forty, but I could have handled the recoil from a lighter frame from experience with my CZ 2075 Rami.

I love my EMP 9. Have not got to shoot it as much as I would like to. Just picked up a Crossbreed Supertuck and it make carrying it a lot more comfortable. Crossbreed or Shielded holster make a very nice holster.
