This thread got me thinking. I am sure there are at least 5 or 6 members from the Oconee/Anderson/Pickens area. I would like to set up a time for anyone one interested to get together at the Forestry Service range above Walhalla, get to know one another, turn money into noise and holes, and generally have a fun Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

So here is the plan: Reply to this thread if interested. IM me on here or shoot me an email to douglas(dot)l(dot)watson(at)gmail(dot)com if you need directions to the range. That middle initial is a lower-case "L" if you are wondering. I was thinking March 8th around noon would be good. Depending on weather of course.

Let me know if anyone is interested.

I'm in WNC, Transylvania County. will try to schedule it. good idea but I suggest an early meeting, Sat. and Sun. afternoon gets busy there. Do you know Richard Hyder from that area? he's got something to do w/the fellas that fixed the place up I met him there.

Normally I would be interested to go shooting with you guys, but I have something already on the schedule. If you change the date or do it again...I will be there.

I live in Landrum, SC (it would be a little drive, but worth it)

I'd be interested. I live about 40 minutes from there. It used to be my most often-visited range, until I discovered the Pickens county public range near Liberty.

We could do it earlier. No problems there. How about 9:30-10am?

I thought about the range in Pickens, but last time I was there, it was Jam Packed. (capitalized on purpose). And also, with the separate rifle and pistol lines, hard to maintain a continuity of shooting/ogling others firearms/mingling/bs'ing.

And with any luck at all this will turn into a monthly/regular thing and we can pickup those with scheduling issues and new guys as they come in, that sort of thing.

Looks like I need to get to work on reloading so that there is more for everyone :)

Walhalla works for me, no problem.

Getting there early is usually the trick. 10AM, I think you are usually OK. 1 PM... you're gonna be waiting in line. That is how it seems to usually work when the weather is nice.

Cedar Creek range meeting

is this still on and if so what details. has long range weather been checked?
it's quite a drive for me but I'm off on Monday and Tuesday so I can likely make it. about 40-50 miles over mountain roads for me.

I may be interested. It's quite a drive for me though, around 3 hours. I guess it's about time to arrange a midlands shoot, haven't done that in a long time.

10 day forecast right now says "Few snow showers/wind" with a high of 44 on Saturday.

Shame, I was based out of Walhalla in November 2007 for a deer hunt and used the range there to check my zero after flying in from Europe.
I have a buddy in Walhalla but he is too infirm to join in at 74 years old.
I usually make it over every year for deer or turkey but never both in the same year.
Got a yearling buck 2 hrs south of Walhalla on that hunt, meats all in my german freezer now.

Weather in Walhalla as of right now. Chilly and windy. Overcast, but no liquid sunshine.

I plan on being up there about 9:30 this morning and will be up there for about 2 or 3 hours. I will be in a grey pickup truck, and I always wear a brown Superman(tm) ball cap. If you come up, don't be shy, real name's Doug.
