Well preserved. I wonder if it made it to France from March til November.
I'd say it did since the Germans launched Operation Michael on 21 March 1918 which was the first in a series of offensives designed to defeat the British and French Armies before the AEF arrived in force enough to tip the balance in favor of the Allies and make a German victory impossible. By May 1918, 318,000 American soldiers were due in France, with another million planned to arrive before August. So I imagine these 1911s were being shipped over to the AEF in France as fast as possible.
