Does anyone 'belong' to this association or know anything about it? I saw this website and actually joined their mailing list and this guy sends me like 3-4 emails a day! They are all very preachy, big brother-ish and they all try and get me to buy into some membership that has some books about handguns, protecting your home, and how to respond to a potential threat.

The most expensive one they push is a $300 membership that offers up to $300,000 in civil liability and $75000 in criminal liability protection.

"Scam" doesn't seem like the right word, but it definitely seems like something where you pay a lot of money and get information that is widely free if you do some digging online.

I guess Im just looking for opinions from existing "members"

Anyone?

I used to be. Decent magazine, when it became time to renew he forced me to upgrade to these crazy prices or drop. I dropped. I have tried over and over to have them stop spamming me. I get constant emails telling me how i will die and my family will be left behind if I don't buy the thing of the week. I don't think much of him, he dogs the NRA and espouses the GOA. Asked him what the GOA has done and he was offended and kept telling me how they don't compromise.
He never gave me a straight answer. I will stick with other sources for bonding. If you look, his stuff only pays off AFTER you win. No way for him to lose.

I did the same thing. Joined the mailing list and then got a non stop barrage of emails.
To be fair, the same thing happened to me after joining the NRA. Non-stop emails. And many of them are really lame. A wine club? That's not why I joined the NRA. These people need money for the cause, and I can understand that. But at the same time, it's a huge turn-off, and I think it scares some members away from renewing.

I joined USCCA a couple years ago. I renewed this past May, and a month or so after I renewed, I got an e-mail from them telling me that my current membership status wouldn't be available anymore after this one expired.

I guess you either have to pay for their legal services from now on or be left out.

They can count me out after my current membership expires.

Knowing how "Tim" is though, they'll offer something else "just in time" before my membership expires for good.

Did they send you an official "Concealed Carry Badge"? :D

I dropped the NRA reluctantly after too many emails, junk mail and phone calls. All with one real purpose, "give us more money or the Democrats will take your guns". No matter how many times I asked them to stop calling me, they kept calling. Called themselves right out of my membership.

But the NRA is THE big dog in "our" fight. USCCA..ummm.. no.

I'll put up with the NRA getting away with it. Some others have yet to prove they deserve the same respect.

the uscca seems like a scare monger, but i have not been contacted by them yet..... the nra no doubt spends more money on sending me stuff than my membership would pay for, so i told them not to send me anything. That has been three years ago and they havent sent me anything but the magazine. I donate when I want to and do not like to be asked, whether it is the nra, uscca or the girl scouts.

Yeah, I signed up for emails and got 2-3 a day. After a couple of months I got that same feeling jmstevens2 got. I hit unsubscribe before I sent any money.

I don't belong to either the USCCA nor the NRA. My dollars currently go to State level groups such as the Louisiana Shooting Association (a state level gun rights group with lawyers and a full time lobbiest at the capital in Baton Rouge) and the Louisiana Open Carry Awareness League (because I open carry, duh). As for the legal protection, I subscribe to the Louisiana Armed Citizen Plan offered by the offices of Allison & Allison.

Thanks for the Input. I think I know everything I need to know now.

NRA Is very aggressive but at least your dollars are put to good use. all you have to do is unsubscribe from their emails and toss out all their junk mail they send you. they never call me either. I just use fake phone numbers. I also have an email account that is strictly for signing up for things like that so I don't have to be bothered by spam mail.

USCCA strikes again!

Somehow in the last day or so, a couple of his e-mails made it past my spam filter (I've been sending 'em all straight to the trash). The last one had this little blurb:
For a limited time, we're giving Subscribers of this newsletter a priceless, 100% FREE download report called "What You MUST Know BEFORE Leaving Your House With Your Gun."

Well I figured since they already had my e-mail, I might as well bite-I'm always game for a good read. I clicked on the e-mail for the free download, and try as I might, I have yet to find a free download on their WAY too long sales pitch page-I'm also subjected to a 35 minute diatribe from Tim Schmidt (I'm really starting to loathe that guy-I hit the mute button)-mebbe the free download will appear after the 35 minute sales pitch, maybe not, but I ain't sticking around that long. More than likely the article is just rehashed info that you can find from more informed individuals / sources in many OTHER places.

I have also listened to USCCA's podcast of their radio show-a whole lot of self-promoting fluff, with very little stuff. I liken it to channel surfing and ending up on WWF - after 5 minutes, you just have to smack yourself upside the head and ask yourself why the heck am I watching (listening) to this crap?
Hey...it's either that or listening to rap music...suddenly, rap ain't sounding so bad! :D :banghead:

Avoid these folks like the plague! From previous experience, I knew they were not a non-profit organization, and somebody at the top obviously went to business school where they were taught to maximize profits at the expense of all else (like conveying good information)!

The NRA can't hold a light to these guys! I opted out of all the NRA stuff sent my way and now receive nary a thing from 'em.
Not that it makes much difference (the NRA is obviously selling their mailing list), but a lot of stuff you get that looks like it's from the NRA is actually from a 3rd party (probably the wine club, DVDs, etc). I once got a Ten Guns That Changed The World (or some title close) DVD that had no identifying markings on the box. When I ripped it open, I found it was the DVD, and they wanted me to pay for it or send it back. Well, I ain't paying for something I didn't order, and if they had identified it on the box I would have just given it back to the mailman and refused delivery-since I had opened it, I would have had to pay return shipping, and that ain't gonna happen either!

Did a little checking on the laws/postal regulations regarding unsolicited items received through the mail-they sent me bills, which went straight to the trash. When they finally called me, I explained to the nice gentleman that based on the laws/regulations, he was going to get neither money or his DVD back, but since my friends and I enjoyed the free DVD so much, he was welcome to send more unsolicited DVDs if he so desired!
Funny...never heard any more from those folks... :D

The download was, don't leave home without my "insurance" which pays nothing until you are acquitted. So, if you thought that this was going to help you with a lawyer to defend yourself, oops, sorry!
Try the Armed Citizens Legal Defense Fund or something like that. They actually help you find an attorney and pay $10,000 to get him started.

I dropped the NRA reluctantly after too many emails, junk mail and phone calls.

I'm a life member of the NRA and have never received a phone call from them, emails are easy-just click on "unsuscribe", and the junk mail goes right in the recycling bin.

Dropped the nra? Might as well surrender your weapons and become a Democrat.
You can shut off the emails and still belong.

I like the USCAA magazine but the emails are really annoying. I am sure there is a way to shut them off too.

But you can't subscribe anymore unless you buy that BS "insurance" The guy borders on scamming in my opinion. I was forced out for not buying the "insurance" he now "offers".
