Gentlemen,
This file only begins to tell the story of the SAVING of the M1 Garand Project. The US Navy gets funds to build 32 new Capital Warships. They request Model 1903's and the US Army is going to sell them on the M1 Garand Rifle. Look at the date.
Not just the funds for the new M1 Rifles but Ordnance is asking the US Navy to pay for everything that goes into making the M1 Garand. In this file Ordnance is holding up the sale of Model 1903's and this file kicks off the SAVING of the M1 Garand Project for the US ARMY.

There are more files on this subject. However to "SEE" the entire data you will need two things. One is my Books and the other a history book. The history book shows what's going on from the early 1920's to the late 1939. As things happen in history Ordnance is moving trying to stay ahead.
If you need a bigger file just email me.
I need some "hits" guys

eclancy,

Yet again, amazing historical detective work! After looking at your websites, I cannot even imagine the amount of time you have dedicated to your work.

One thing I noticed, the memo was dated 1933 but references Navy "requests" dated 1934. Is that because the Navy Reqs were for the future, meaning the 1934 timeframe?

Thanks again for the posts!

BTW, I am still slowly cleaning off/out all the cosmoline and gunk from my CMP Garand, inching ever so close to actually shooting with it!

Khornet,

I love that poster: "The M1 does my talking!" Bought one when I was at the CMP store a couple of weeks ago. Am going to have it and my Garand certificate mounted and framed. I'd LOVE to put it up in my cube at work, but fear the corporate PC police!

Jaim03,

if you liked the poster, you should get the book by the same title. Also, Thompson's and Canfield's books, and Scott Duff's. Great reading.

Khornet,

Thanks for the tip. I'll look for those. Can't wait for MY M1 to start "talking"!

Soon, very, very soon..... :)
