Guess they were not happy with the poll results the first time, so USAtoday is running another one... Vote now
Attorney General, Eric Holder, has already said this is one of his major issues. He does not believe the 2nd Amendment gives individuals the right to bear arms. This takes literally 2 clicks to complete. Please vote on this gun issue question with USA Today. It will only take a few seconds of your time. Then pass the link on to all the pro- gun folks you know. Hopefully these results will be published later this month. This upcoming year will become critical for gun owners with the Supreme Court's accepting theDistrict of Columbia case against the right for individuals to bear arms.

Yes, the support of a kindred spirit has brought back my moderator mojo! But I'm going to leave this one open for a bit so hopefully some people look at it and realize that this poll is old. Really old.

This poll appeared in November 2007 when the Supreme Court decided to hear Heller.

This poll only continues to circulate because people want to think they are making a difference by posting and reposting and reposting without taking the time to even read the message they are posting and thinking about what it is saying. Notice this line: This upcoming year will become critical for gun owners with the Supreme Court's accepting theDistrict of Columbia case against the right for individuals to bear arms. This case was decided on June 26, 2008. Almost four years ago.

Circulating this poll is just silly. It doesn't accomplish anything other than giving someone a warm fuzzy feeling that they are making a difference when they aren't actually doing anything at all. It's been posted thousands of times on various gun forums, blogs, and other sites by well-intentioned people who just can't be bothered to think about the message they are pasting and realize that the SCOTUS already decided the case mentioned.

I suspect the only reason it is still on USA Today's site is that someone either hasn't bothered to take it down or is amused that four and half years later people are still sending it around.
 
Anti-gun articles, polls, and editorials are one of the big bread-and-butter items for newspapers today. The topic stirs the pot, boosts readership, participation and circulation. Heh, 2A is a miniature stimulus package for newspaper all by itself.

It's all about the advertising dollars.

It's a trick question anyway and there really isn't a right way to answer it. The correct answer is NO...but if we answer it NO we agree with the antis. If we answer YES, we concede that keeping and bearing arms is a privilege given to us by the government.

The Second Amendment does not grant us the right to keep and bear arms. It recognizes that the right to keep and bear arms is a fundamental right, and guarantees it...but it doesn't grant anything.

Privileges are granted, and can be revoked at whim. Rights aren't. Even if they somehow mustered enough votes in the Supreme Court to repeal 2A...we'd still have that right. It just wouldn't be constitutionally protected any more.
 
LOL, I just about passed the link on to some friends until I saw 2007 in the URL.

Considering that you can vote more than once and that this has pretty much only been circulated around gun-friendly sites for the last 4 years, that number is hardly an accurate representation of anything. Internet polls are pretty much worthless anyway, and when you only "sample" those with substantial bias, you make it even more skewed.

Don't get me wrong. I'm sure the OP and all the other people who forward this have the best intentions. But this poll isn't doing anything other than letting people high-five each other about thinking they are "doing something."
 
I didn't see it in 07 so can I still vote? Just kidding. This isn't just a re post here, it has turned up on other forums repeatedly.
 
What's next? A USA Today poll asking, "Do you believe the First Amendment gives Americans the freedom to say what they think?

Nothing in the Constitution gives anyone any right. It only reaffirms and guarantees protections for rights we all have by virtue of our existence.
