I went to a few gun shops around here looking for my next purchase and I need a little advice. The one I'm most interested in is an old FN Hi Power. It's an old Argentine Police pistol or at least the markings on the slide convinced me so. It's got a few minor dings on the slide nothing that bothers me, and also the number 61' on the side of the slide. Guy is asking $350.
The other one is a Springfield Defender in 45. It has a small spot of rust on the end of the barrel, but otherwise in great condition for $430. Any good deals there or am I'm just dreaming of finding a good deal in this place.

Was that HP made in Belgium or made in Argentina? If the former, and you want 9mm, that would seem to be the better bet. The Argentine guns seem to be pretty good, but not of the fit and finish quality of the Belgian or Portuguese guns. The number is probably a police property marking.

If the HP is semi clean or is mechanically sound and IS a Belgian gun then the price is very good. If its an Argentine gun...its pretty high.

A Springfield Defender..........a Colt? Maybe? Another good deal.

Shoot well.

Look at the "Argus" Bulgarian (I think) HiPower clones, about $250.

The Argintine FM HiPowers aren't much to look at but mine is a great shooter.
Should be under $350 new.

If it says "made in Belgium" and its in good shape price is good.

Not picking nits, just making future research a little easier... the Bulgarian guns are called Arcus not Argus.

My experience with two is that for the asking price, if you don't mind the changes that have been made, they're pretty darned nice guns but having said that, if the local BHP is Belgian, I'd probably go for that.

I think I may have to go pick up that hi power next chance I get, I know it's Belgium made. And I'm sure the Defender was a springfield. Thanks for the input
