What I would buy would depend on what I am loading. There are new products on the market that I would buy today rather than my trusty Rockchucker.

As an experienced loader, I suspect you would be able to put together a kit of your own design better suited to your particular tastes than any ready-made kit.

Tell us something about your needs, please, and you experience level.

What calibers will you be reloading?

What quantities will you be reloading for those calibers?

How much time will you be willing to devote to those quantities

What is your budget?

Will you be putting your gear away after each session or leave it set up permanently?

How much space will you devote permanently to a loading area, if any?

Do you want it to be portable?

What are your shooting goals? Cheap ammo? Ultimate long-range accuracy? Casual plinking, Serious competition - what kind? Cowboy Action Shooting? Strictly hunting?

Thanks fore asking our advice.

hi lost sheep i have reloaded before for about 2 yrs had to move and sold my rockchucker kit. the used stuff im looking at has a rcbs pardner press It it alot smaller than my rockchucker was. as for room i'll have a corner in craft room. I'll be loading my 30-06 and my sons 270/Mostly for higher quality ammo the upside to new kits is a better press but no case trimmer for same price the down side could get a case trimmer with other

What is included in the used package and in what condition? If its not abused, it should last a very long time. Sometimes used "packages" are a great deal and include a lot of valuable extras.

I have used the RCBS Jr, Special or whatever it was called over 35 years ago and it still works fine - it isn't fast, but it works. As long as either package has a scale and powder measure, etc., get the cheaper package

Presses don't move fast enough to "wear out", unless thee is undue rust and evidence of no general care. Therefore you can save a lot of money buying used equipment.

However, 30-06 is a long cartridge. When shopping, take a loaded round with you and make sure the press is tall enough inside to accept the 30-06 round.

If you are in no hurry to get the stuff, buying used as it becomes available is the way to go. These days there is a shortage of even used equipment however. I feel if you get something that will work that is used for now there will be a bunch of good used stuff available to upgrade into in the near future at fire sale prices when everybody that bought stuff in panic finds out it takes work to reload ammo. Those that panic usually spend lots for nothing IMHO. As long as you are willing to wait for a good deal to come up then there will be deals available.:)

Simplified answer: if you have the funds to buy new get the new rockchuckar. If you don't have the funds for new stuff then get used.

Its all the same stuff once you open the box, its not like buying a car from a dealer.

What I started out, got the bare bones so I can get started reloading, then started with Lee dies, then moved to RCBS or Redding. Buy sell trade all the time.

The kit is $279...why would you want to spent $350 on used stuff?

I would think you could easily get a complete single stage set up for $350 is you shop wisely and try to get what you can for used stuff. But it also depends on how many cartridges your planing on starting off with too. Most common rifle die set are about $25 new, pistol probably $45.
HF has calipers for $10 and they do the job, stainless steel too. HF also has some inexpensive tumblers, and media at a great price too.

Cost estimate:
Press- $50 (used)
1 die - $25 (Rifle new) $45 (Pistol)
Lee case trimmer for one cartridge- $20 (new)
Scale - $40 (used)
Caliper- $10 (new)
Tumbler- $40 (new)
Ream & chamfer tool $15 (new)
Books- x 2 $50 ?
Other accessories,
lube, media, 2 loading blocks $30
Total estimate - $325.00 (+/- $50)

I'm sure I probably missed a couple of accessories. And my estimates are probably not all that accurate considering I bought most of my stuff 30+ yrs. ago, and I also got some of it used back then.

Looks like gamestalker has a pretty good deal going there. Maybe a few a little high or a few a little low. But hopping around on 4 or 5 gun sites one could pick up most of that stuff in swapping and selling sections in a month or so. Good luck to ya, and as others said maybe in 5-6 months from now look out, it'll be everywhere.
