"Good to very good condition" - what can I expect to find with a used pump listed like this. I've seen photos of a few minor dings and worn finish, but I dont mind cosmetic problems. Is it a case of "buyer beware" with internet dealers? Thanks in advance :)

Look closely at the pictures, and don't be afraid to ask for more pictures and ask questions. Ask about Social Security numbers and/or driver's license numbers etched into the gun in different places. This is one that is so commonplace and it absolutely kills me. Why in the world people do it I have no idea; the gun had a federally mandated serial number, but they do do it, so ask.
People's ideas of what good and excellent are vary considerably. I got a "very good condition" Model 1100 that was truly 99.9% plus. I got another gun that was listed as 95% and I can find nothing wrong with it beforehand, or later with it in my hands and disassembled no less.

Thanks for the info - I had a feeling the definition would vary. I sent a question about additional sets of numbers. I think its a police trade in but cant be sure where its been since then. So we'll see...

Check the feedback from past buyers on that seller - if he has a bazillion positives and no negatives, you're probably dealing with a fairly reputable person who should be able to give you an accurate description. They should also provide you a 3 day inspection period to have it checked out.

Just about any reputable dealer will give you at least three days to inspect and reject an internet transaction on a firearm.

You have the obligation to respond within the agreed upon time period. If you are not familiar with the gun, I would have a gunsmith lined up in advance before making the purchase to help with the inspection.

Ask the gunsmith for a condition determination and to rate the value.
