I visited a gunshop today and was offered a used Taurus 24/7 Pro .40 S&W, SS 4" barrel for $300. It did not look used at all. Thanks for your recommendations.

I like their early (no lock) revolvers. Not so much their (or other) plastic pistols. My sons 24/7 had to be sent back because of cracked polymer on the back of the frame near the slide.

Taurus logo , should read , RUN WHEN YOU SEE THE BULL.

Run away , when ever anyone tries to sell you one or your around anyone shooting one.

I enjoy several Taurus guns as do many of the people I shoot with at the range.

Thanks

All, thanks for your inputs.

Yeah, I think it is these that are notorious for their kabooms, especially in .40 S&W caliber because of unsupported chambers!!!

And very recently my friends Kobra Carry was also "on the way back to" Perry, MO because of peeing on the high-priced slide. Now I'm not too keen on shooting mine.

No fear!!!

Thanks for the clarification, chicharrones. I do own several Taurus revolvers (including the almost-magical 608 4" .357 magnum 8-shooter) and semis (the excellent PT1911) . I had NO FEAR when pulling the trigger hundreds of times on any of them, and now - thanks to your clarification - I would be that much more "fearless".

So, is $300 a fair/good price for this weapon in the OP? Thanks.

I thought I smelled sometime funny and I realized you had a name like benzene.
Reminds me of my undergraduate O-chem labs.

Also ... I'm not sure Tauruses are famous for Kbm! I just think they stop working for one reason or another, and not all Tauruses, mind you. There are many happy Taurus owners out there but there's definitely a lot of unhappy (ex)Taurus owners as well.

I used to tell people that it's a good thing that Taurus has a lifetime warranty - because you just might need it.

BTW: that's a good price on a 24/7 stainless steel.

I've owned 10 Taurus revolvers and 4 Taurus autos in the past 20 years. Not going to say how many I still have.
I WILL tell you that I have NEVER had to use the warranty. I have never had one fail me. I have never had one that was inaccurate.
The ones I sold, were because I needed the money, NOT because of any problems with them. I have NEVER had any problems with any Taurus product.

I would jump on a 24/7 for $300.00, IF it was the .45. I've never owned a .40 and am not looking to add a new caliber for which I need to buy/load ammo.

Tell him not to pee on the slide. I mean really, kids these days... :)

I Very Much Like That!!!

Really, thanks for a good laugh, orionengnr. :D I needed it after a day like I had at the office today. You know I meant "PEENING". However, the reality of that "peening" is not as funny - not for a gun at that price. Fine weapon otherwise.

But what do you think of the OP? Thanks, and thanks for all the inputs thus far.

I have 3 Taurus handguns. I have never had a problem with any of them. They are 100% reliable after thousands of rounds. I have had to send a Glock & an S&W back to the factory, not so for my Taurus guns. $300 for that gun sounds like a good deal. Not everybody hates Taurus.

$300 sounds like a good deal. How many rounds has he put through it?

I have owned a taurus pistol and revolver and they both were great.

I have the 24/7 OSS DS 5" and its a pretty good gun. the finish sucks, but its very comfortable to shoot.

the way that gun recoil's doesn't feel like you are shooting a .45..... more like a hot 9mm.

Not more than one box...

Thanks again forall the inputs. The shop guy said that the lady who bought the gun did not put more than one box of ammo through it - but he's the seller of course. However, the gun looks like brand new.

For the hell of it go back to that gun shop and throw down $250.00 cash on the counter and see what happens. You might get a great deal.

Just a tad late!

That was a good suggestion, glove. The only thing is that it is a tad late. Thanks, anyway.

I went there and picked it up. I doubt that that gun had seen more than 2 magazines through it. Excellent condition. Now I have to disassemble, clean, and lubricate it, and then...off to the range.

The only issue I've seen so far is that the 15-round magazines only hold 14 rounds. I'll see if cleaning them out solves this issue.

I would take $300 bucks to take the Taurus off their hands. Originally I was gonna say they would have to pay me $400 but I'd be content with $300 the economy being the way it is and all.

I really don't see why there are so many people bashing Taurus... You'd think it was a Hi-point thread, or a Glock thread... Seriously people, grow up. If there's a Valid, Known issue with a gun, then feel free to report it, and feel free to report Your Own experiences as relates to the OP, but really...

gonna say they would have to pay me $400 but
Really. Have you ever owned a Taurus? I've owned 4 myself, and they've all been just fine. I had to replace the pivot pin on a PT-22, but other than that, NO problems.

Mine is on the way back to Taurus as we speak....
What model, and what was the problem with it? Can you expand on your comment so that we know whether your information is relevant or you just sent it back to Taurus to have it cleaned?

Got a reason for that? Taurus handguns seem to be getting decent reviews. Does price have something to do with that? I've noticed a lot of people believe that if you didn't pay $800+ for your gun that it's garbage. I don't adhere to this... One of my guns cost me $1500, and another cost me $30.

I think if the OP likes the look and feel of the pistol, he should get it. If he ends up not liking it in the end, I'm sure he'll find no shortage of other forum members or even someone locally to trade for it or sell it.
