Whats a typical price range for a used Gen 3? I live in Oklahoma and at the gun shops new ones run about $550. And whats some ways to test quality at say a gun show?
You should be able to find new Gen 3 Glocks for $499 in Oklahoma, plus sales tax (so $540ish, out the door). A very good condition new one should be $425-450 from a private party, which saves you $100 give or take once you consider the sales tax savings as well. I have even seen used LNIB Gen 3s for sale, at retail stores, as low as $399 before (though you pay tax on that; this example was an apparently-unfired OD Green Glock 27 which sold to someone else quicker than I could get my plastic out of my wallet into the salesperson's hands).

Whereabouts in Oklahoma are you? I can recommend a some shops if I have an idea of your locale.

Gen 2/Gen 3 go for about $369-$399 used in Richmond. Not too bad of a price. I'd go used. Just take it apart and inspect it for any problems. The only reason I didn't buy a used 21 the other day is because the one I was looking at was dirty. Dirt and carbon on it. This thing looked like a Glock that had been in a sandstorm or two.

Just do your homework, ask lots of questions. I just bought a glock 17 gen 3. when i asked the guy a bunch of questions i found out he got it from a friend who owed him money but couldn't pay. ( guy doesn't have money doesn't have ammo so cant shoot it) the guy i bought it from had 7 40cal guns and only shot 2 clips threw the glock (but dont believe everything they tell you)

a simple field strip, it looked new! no wear on the outside of the barrel. got it for 400. at the store new it would have cost 475ish.

lots of people buy a gun shoot it every weekend for a month til ammo is gone. then put it in the safe and never touch it til they need quick cash or want a different gun.

Join the GSSF & you can buy a new Glock for what used ones go for.

If you want a Glock this is the best route to go.

Outside of that a used Glock is a pretty safe bet. There isn't that many parts that go bad. Look for police trade ins. They will have some holster wear but if you are carrying it that won't matter.
