USEFUL TOOLS

It struck, me while reading about unloading a C&B revolver, that there may well be many special tools that members have developed over the years they have been shooting BP that may be of interest / help to other shooters.

The single most useful tool that I have is my pair of stainless steel dental tweezers which are 6" long. I have big hands and find mounting caps difficult so I use these to pick up the caps and place them on the nipples. I then seat them with a leather tipped piece of dowell which was very kindly sent by Manyirons. They are also very useful for picking up and seating wads and lots of other jobs when cleaning and making new lubed wads & lube pills.

Duncan, Exellent thought! There is a gun show near me sunday, and always you will find guys with a table full of implements such as hemostats, tweezers, etc. Not only useful for loading, but cleaning and holding small parts! Good day & good shooting

I would imagine the tweezers come in handy, being a oeinophile, keeping the lube off your fingers, so you have no problem twisting the cap off your wine bottle, eh?

Hey George, that's sacrilege, good wine has corks not screw caps! Anyway, I thought you weren't suppose to mix booze and guns, your powder gets damp!
I don't drink and drive either, you are likely to hit a bump and spill the whole thing!

Ahh, Duncan, now I'm feeling guilty! I have a pouch on each of my black powder gunbelts which contains vinyl quick load tubes, an in line capper and a tin of lube pills. There's about 25 rounds in the .44 one and around 35 in the .36 one. I can just buckle the pistol on and be good to go for a hunting or plinking session.

And tha MANN insteada tweezers made tubes fer MUSKET caps tha flangeless type causa big fingers and better ignition. Cappin that revolver be EASY!

Black powder fowling on the hands

Duncan, Black powder fowling can sometimes be hard to remove from the skin. I have discovered that common hydrogen peroxide removes any stains from skin on hands, etc. after a long days shooting.

I use Simple Green for cleaning BP fouling from pistol and hands. Works great!!

Duncan, Do you use a 44 or a 36 to remove the top from that wine?
