I just had a stupid thought. Has anyone used military 06 bullets in 308 win? I bid on some on E-bay because I "thought" they were interchangable. They are 150 gr FMJ.

Thanks,
Jim

Shouldn't be a problem the "white box" 308 is 147gr fmj IIRC .With bullets up to 180 gr not much difference between the two.

"...interchangable..." They are. Same bullet diameter. There's lots of 150 grain data for the .308. Just don't expect great accuracy with surplus bullets.

Accuracy is a relative term. Compared to the surplus ammo I have been using, the 7.62x51 pulls I've been using are WAY better.
I don't really need more, just figured a couple thousand pulls and brass from ebay couldn't hurt to have on hand.

Thanks for the info.

Jim

the caneaurls are different on the 06' 150 and the 762.51 147FMJs,

they'll interchange, you just can't seat the surplus 06's 150 to the caneaurl because the bullet will be too deep in the 762.51 case, just seat the bullet to 2.80 OAL and your ammo will be just fine.

IIRC the '06 bullets will also be flat base.

I tried some of these in a 308 and it ran okay...but the 308 likes the boat-tails a bit more IMO.

What is really neat is that the '06 bullets really are nice out of my 14" 30-30 TC. :)

I think it has somthing to do with bearing surface or some such...all sounds like engine-ear stuff to me.
