Decided to try a Burris Fastfire III on my FNX Tactical .45 and need some guidance. I'm so used to the sights on the pistol and it seems weird to try and use the dot sight.

How do you line up the dot sight when shooting? im so used to lining up the front sight with the rear that it feels weird using just a dot. What the heck am I missing here?

Seems so much different than using a rifle dot sight because of the stock resting on my shoulder.

I use a FF III. It does feel weird at first trying to find the dot. It's prett simple, though. Put the dot on target and fire. I am a Burris FF III fan. I have used them on Ruger MK pistols and 1911's. They hold zero great. Adjustments are rare.

I have used one on a S&W Model 41 and a Ruger MK II for bullseye shooting. As they say, just put the dot where you want the round to land (once you've sighted it in, of course) and pull the trigger.

It can be tricky at first to find the dot. Try holding the pistol straight and flexing your wrist up and down until your eye picks up the dot. After a while it'll be second-nature.

Muscle memory - practice throwing it up to your shoulder. It will eventually become second nature.

I moved my FastFire II from an AR to a 1911, and it took a few weeks of presentation practice before I was comfortable with it, and this is with a 1911 I've been shooting for decades.

As long as you can see the dot, you're okay to shoot - it doesn't have to be perfectly centered in the window.

Thanks all for the info. Practice, practice, practice seems to be the way.
You've got that right. I really doesn't take too long to get used to it. It's the vertical alignment that's tricky. You'll naturally have the pistol straight in the side-to-side axis, but you may find you're tipping the muzzle up too high or dropping it too low.

With iron sights, you've got some visual feedback to tell you which way you're off. Can't see the front sight? Muzzle too low. Seeing too much front sight? Muzzle too high. With the red dot, if you're holding so far off (high or low) that you can't see the dot, you don't really know which way to go. So just rotate your wrist up and down until you see the dot. After a while, you won't have to do it anymore -- you'll just bring it right up.

I'm not sure what you are asking. Are you having trouble finding the dot or is it a question about sight alignment?

Finding the dot...practice to develop your index.

Alignment...there is none, squeeze the trigger when the dot is where you want the bullet to go, doesn't matter where the dot is in relation to the lens or gun or sights.
