I have a few SR primers from last year (only 700) and do not own a small rifle anymore. Is there any draw back to sealing them in a food saver air tight bag? Or would this damage them? Thanks for your replies.

That would be one of my questions I guess...do I need the desiccant if the food saver already sucks out the air in the bag? Or will what little moisture is left in the bag affect the primers?

They'll be fine.

If you're sealing primers in an airtight pouch, the only water vapor in there is what you got with the air that you sealed in there, plus perhaps a very very tiny bit that got into the primer mix when they were manufactured and shipped.

A little dessicant should absorb that tiny bit of moisture - but shouldn't be necessary. If you have 'em sealed already, they will almost certainly outlive you.

They are now food saved and waiting for me to purchase a small rifle someday when small rifles are cheap again. Now if I could only find a store with Varget in stock I would be a happy boy.

They should be more than ok in the food saver bag. I am using primers that have been stored in a box in the garage for 20 years.

I'm also using primers that I bought in the late 1970's, and have yet to have a misfire with them. Primers last a long, long time. Mine were stored on the shelf in my shop and no other care was taken.

Hope this helps.

I've only been reloading for three years and assumed primers were more fragile than they are. I read about all these guys storing them in ammo cans with desiccant and such. Figured that was what you were supposed to do :scrutiny:

Thanks for the affirmation on primer life!
