I purchased a glock barrel, labeled for a 40 s&w, thinking to use it in my Glock 32, to shoot the 40 caliber round.
I got it home and it will insert into the slide for my Glock 32. However, it extends past the front of the slide- i think this is the barrel for a Glock 22, not the 23
If this is correct, should the longer barrel length cause problems or should i reasonably expect the gun to function correctly?
Thank You,

Do NOT try to install the slide with the longer barrel onto your G32 frame, it WILL get stuck if you if it happens to be a G22 barrel. The locking lugs are different between the G22 and G23 and the same for the G32 and G31.

Double check the locking lugs on both barrels before you try to install the slide onto the frame.

Correct, locking lugs are different on Gen1-4. The compact and subcompact Glocks share the same size but the full size Glocks don't, so a G22 barrel won't work in a G32. A G23 barrel would work in a G32 or G33, but not a full size and visa versa. Gen5 Glocks all use the same size locking blocks but there aren't any Gen5 357 SIGs

I have a glock 22 I bought back in 2007 and a g24 barrel to go with it. Barrel selection was not as good as today. Why 6", because 5.5" was the minimum to hunt with although I don't plan to hunt with it, just as a back up. Lock up is the same and there does not seem to be any issues with the longer barrel.

I tried putting the G24 barrel on my G27 and like others said, different lock up. I don't have G23 though.

The barrel locking lugs are the same on the Gen 1-4 G26/G27 and Gen 1-4 G19/G23. The Gen 1-4 G17/G22/G24/G34/G35 have longer barrel locking lugs.

NOTE: The 357 SIG and 40 S&W barrels will NOT fit into 9mm slides. the 357/40 barrels are bigger in diameter and also have bigger barrel hoods. While a 9mm barrel will fit into a 357/40 slide it will be a very sloppy fit and NOT recommended to use.

Yup. Get a 9mm conversion barrel and you should be set. Mine is from Lone Wolf for a G-22. (I also swapped extractors from my G-22 to a 9mm one and use G-17 nags. Some do, some don’t.)

Stay safe.
