Since I cannot locate any Berger VLD 130/140 target/match bullets, I was wondering about the feasibility of using the Berger VLD _hunting_ bullets instead for target/match shooting. My understanding is that the Berger target bullets have a slightly thicker copper skin than the hunting bullets to better withstand the (assumed) hotter target/match barrel.

Any advice/comments?

Thanks.

I get excellent accuracy using Berger VLD hunting bullets. It is equal to the results I get with their VLD target bullets. I have used these only in .308/168gr. so don't have anything to share about other sizes.

I have shot thier .308caliber 168,175,190,210 bullets a fair bit.
The 168,190 &210. Grain versions hit EXACTLY the same point of impact as thier hunting version.
I have shot both hunting and target versions of each out past 1000 yards and the group centers basiclly overlap.

I dont know what the REAL difference is between the hunting/target versions are, but if the jackets are thicker that would change the overall profile of the bullet. That would inturn change the center of gravity and BC slightly. With both types of bullets hitting the same spots at distances like that I am inclined to belive there isnt any difference.

I have found this tendency with at least 3 different rifles of mine.
Take what you will from that observation.
