We regularly have a low light stage which requires a flashlight at one of my IDPA matches. I have a Surefire, but what do you use to hold it when you need to change mags? Also, is there any information online about how best to hold/utilize a flashlight? Thank you.

"O" ring attached to the flashlight with a swivel. Plus lots of pratice manupulating the light.

I suppose more of an explaination is in order.
I use a large key ring attached to a sampo ball bearing swivel attached to the light barrel with high test braided fishing line. You roll the light to the back of the hand to free up the hand for reloading. Then you simple roll the light back into the palm and assume the grip for the flashlight technique you are using. It's simple and easy with pratice.

Due to the lack of night sights on my G26, I hold the light to my weak hand cheek with my weak hand, and shoot strong hand only. This method not only illuminates the threat, but my sights as well. The cigar method works fine if you have huge hands and night sights. I, as stated before, have neither.:banghead: Whatever method you choose, be sure to practice it at the range, while actually shooting. A buddy of mine claims that he never practices with a flashlight because he can't shoot at the range at night. No one said that the light actually needs to be turned on to practice gun handling drills with the flashlight.

The technique sirveyr666 uses is taught by "Rangemaster" instructor Tom Givens. It's one of the techniques I have been taught, but doesn't work well for me. Harries works better for me, with or without night sights. Using this technique, I can see the sights quite well. IMHO the only time night sights are an advantage are after illumination and movement when the shot is taken at the form, or shooting at muzzle flashes.
