Using scope with Cover left one?

The Scope cover is clear, so that the scope can be used with the cover left on. It adds a yellow tint though, as though looking through sunglasses.

Is their any reason that I should not hunt with the cover left on to protect the lense?

This is one of those covers where the end caps are connected with the black elastic cord.

You'll get better light transmission in low-light conditions if you take the covers off. Honestly, I see no reason to leave them on while hunting.

Looking through a yellow lens can give very good contrast in bright light. I have not used it for a scope, but for irons, I always use a yellow filter outdoors in my rear iris.

The whole purpose for getting a scope is to see better. Leaving those plastic lenses on your scope will cut down on the brightness like the other poster said.

If you like yellow then get some shooting glasses with yellow lenses in them.

Whats a rear iris? do you have multi layered eyeballs? LOL, just kidding. Do you mean the ocular lense of your scope?

srew-on, optical-quality covers/filters may be available....MUCH superior to your plastic covers. Your scope "bikini" is best left for transport/storage>

It does decrease your image clarity and such, but if you can still effectively acquire and shoot at whatever you're hunting, I don't see how it's such a big deal.

Rear iris

I'll jump in here and guess that, since he mentioned irons, he has some high-quality target-type iron sights that have removable inserts. Depending on the match rules, you can use optical inserts in the rear sights that are colored to improve contrast in differing weather conditions, or have diopters for vision correction. These aren't considered a "scope".

I believe these are even available for the NM type rear sights on an M1...

Some scope covers have a yellow tinted cover lens that might help with low light issues, but it is not as clear as pure lens. Plastic is not as clear as glass.

I always just assumed that the clear/yellow bikini covers were meant as expediency tools for times such as visual scouting while in transit (hiking) or for keeping the lenses actually protected in poor weather while still allowing you to be able to to a bit of spotting from your hide.

You can shoot with them on, but your shots will not be as accurate or may not be as accurate because each lens will offer a bit of distortion to your sight picture including if one is slightly canted. This will cause a slight refraction of light, bending it such that where you think you are aiming is not where the barrel is actually pointed. This problem will be exacerbated with distance. It could cause you to be an inch or two off at 50 yards and hence four to eight off at 200, for example.
