I want to use my iPhone 6s to video my pistol shooting. I'm hoping it can help me improve my technique. (I'm hoping something can!) I have two sets of questions:

(1) Does the "camera" lens have to be at the same level as the pistol or can it be angled to shoot up from below? I don't generally shoot from behind a bench so the tripod would stand on the ground. How big a tripod would I need? Any tripod or attachment recommendations?

(2) Can you use the camera app that comes on the iPhone 6s or do you need to purchase a fancier one that has ultra slow-motion? What setting(s) do you use?

I'd be grateful for any advice and experience people have videoing their training

The lens itself can't be angled–only the device. So, you'll have to come up with the angle of the shot you prefer, then find a way to set your camera up to capture it. Having a range buddy help out is probably the easiest way to get multiple angles.

The phone itself has a great camera that's already equipped with slow motion. Here's an example of the phone's capabilities: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZgQUobLqpE

To get set it up for slow motion recording:
1) Press the big home button to make the screen light up.
2) Swipe up from the bottom of the screen, keeping your thumb on the camera icon in the lower right hand corner as you swipe.
3) Down at the bottom where it says "photo," swipe either direction until you see "slo-mo" come to the center.
4) Press red button once to record.
5) Press red button again to stop recording.

If any of that is unclear, let me know and I can post some screen shots.

Hamms has the right idea. Go onto Amazon and search for something like

"Cell Phone Tripod Adapter - iPhone "

You could purchase a cheap camera tripod too if you do not have one and also maybe get the keyless remote that works with your phone.
Maybe not professional quality, but not expensive. Would be fun to try myself.
