I have the stock mag holder, holster, etc. But from having used these, it feels like I'm walking into USPSA at an instant disadvantage. Does anyone else use an XD9? What holster, mag holders, belt can you recommend?

TIA

Well, are you shooting mainly to win and beat everyone else, or are you shooting to hone your carry skills and prepare yourself? Do you need the .3 second advantage of a different holster, or do you need to perfect your other skills first before that really comes into play?

Tarvis,

I'm shooting for competition. I shoot in my backyard to practice carry skills, accuracy, etc. I'm not looking for a "speed holster", merely a holster that isn't a stock piece of garbage. I'm joining USPSA as a means to compete against others in a fun sport.

So do you have any suggestions for an XD 9" holster? Or do you need to perfect your BS post before answering a specific question? ;)

(That was meant to be humorous)

When you say "stock" holster and mag pouches, I assume you mean those that come with an XD, yes? If so, I think they're fine. Is a Blade Tech (and others) better? I suspect yes, a Blade Tech will allow for a VERY slightly faster draw but If you're looking to be competitive in Production division, it's not the holster that needs changing, it's the gun. Actually, it's PRACTICE but to get the most out of your gear, you'll need to change things if your XD is stock. Better sites, a trigger job, mag well, etc will make a world of difference, much more so than the holster.

That said, I'm glad I kept everything stock for the first year after I started shooting IPSC. I didn't change a thing and used the cheapest of all holsters, an Uncle Mikes. I wasn't trying to beat anyone, just learn the game and learn how to shoot properly. After that first year, I knew exactly what I wanted. I now shoot a custom Single Stack gun with Blade Tech gear. My original Production gun (a Beretta) sits in the safe save for an occasional plinking outing.

i use blade tech with the doh attachment, i also use the cr speed belt and mag pouches. i use the same set up for everthing after trying many different types of holsters and mag carriers and think i have my favorite set up. good luck, you will enjoy the game.

Check out www.pistolgear.com - they have about everything you might need for the XD in competition. Go to a few matches... then make your choices.

Also check out canyoncreekcustom.com and springerprecision.com.

I must disagree with the poster that said your pistol needs upgraded. I shoot with an XD-45 tactical but also own a XD-9 tactical. Both are great for USPSA. I shoot limited 10 class so I don't have to STUFF the mag full and hope for the best. I loan the XD-9 to my young son and grand daughter because they like the feel of it over a Glock.

Next your choice of gear. I like CR speed belt because they work well. I use Safariland speed mag pouches. They are adjustable for tension and angle. I take three mags in the pouches and one in hand to the line. If it takes me more than 40 shots to clear a stage, I've done something seriously wrong. Sometimes on a particulary large stage, I may bring a spare mag in a pocket.
(Or if there is a texas star) (In which case I bring an extra bucket of bullets.) I might do better with a bayonet on the Texas star.

For holsters I use a CR speed rig for my XD 45. I had a Blade Tech DOH and liked it but the CR speed is faster. So now I "look like" I should shoot accurate and fast but scores are slow to catch up to my gear.
