Shoot both.
I shoot both IDPA and USPSA matches but I only saw the value in joining USPSA. The classification system works based on your membership in USPSA (classifiers as a stage or two of just about every match) whereas anybody can shoot an IDPA classifier in 1/2 hour and figure your class within minutes. I don't shoot any big IDPA matches so the membership doesn't yet matter to me.
With Production.USPSA and SSP.IDPA as well as SingleStack.USPSA and CDP.IDPA, it's now very easy to shoot both with the same exact gear, sans vest, and be competitive at both.
