(UT) Calls for scrapping CFL system coming

The article is a bit iffy.

I would LOVE for Utah to get an AK or VT style carry system going, but the first paragraph really turned me off, which said:

Gun-rights activists want Utah to dump its concealed-weapons licensing system and make it legal for any adult with a clean criminal record to pack heat in most public places.

Big openings for abuse there. "Make it legal for any adult with a clean criminal record to pack heat in most public places."

We all know how the anti worms work. They will not hesitate to change the definition of "clean criminal record" to mean that if you've had a speeding ticket or a parking violation, then you no longer have a "clean" criminal record.

"Most public places," they will change to mean your home and the sidewalk in front of it. Not in cars (cars aren't public!), not at schools, not at universities, not at grocery stores (what if you decided to rob the store?), and so on.

I'm so sick of lukewarm idiots that call themselves lovers of liberty.

"A well regulated National Guard, no longer necessary to the security of a free state (it can never happen here, anyway), The right of the people who have never sinned, committed a crime, and who qualify for sainthood, to keep arms locked up seperately from ammunition and out of the view of the public, shall not be infringed."

I love to follow RKBA issues in Utah. I don't see much chance of this happening yet. Bills for Vermont style carry have been advanced in the past, but have never made it out of committee. There would probably be to much public misconception over the issue. Waddoups is the guy who has pushed through most of the CCW legislation, and if he says that there is no political chance, then I tend to believe him.

It sure would be nice though.

Yes Correia, it would be nice.

Of course, I'd be happy for now if they'd just make the CCW process $100.00 cheaper than it currently is. I talked to a co-worker who carries, and he said the total process costs around $150 or more.

Shane, $150 is on the high side for everything. He must have paid more for a class, that is the only real variable in cost.

I charge $20 for the class. But I'm probably the cheapest CCW instructor I'm aware of. Most instructors charge $30-$40. Some guys charge more.

BCI charges $59 I believe. $25 of which goes to the FBI for your finger print check. BCI isn't bad, considering their budget now with 60,000 CCW holders is the same as it was 10 years ago when they had something like 1,000.

Prints can run anywhere from $5-$10, but if you pay more than that it is silly.

Same with photos. I got mine done at Kinkos for $8. A good digital camera will work just fine. It just needs to be a good pass port size picture in front of a white background.

You can get your prints and photos done at BCI when you turn in your paperwork and I think they charge $10.

Personally I think Vermont style would be the way to go. But compared to some states, we are down right cheap. I spoke with somebody from Texas the other day who is moving here. I believe their fee to the state is something like $150, and they have to take a 16 hour class.

UTAH CCW costs

About 3 years ago. it cost me $25 for the class INCLUDING prints and photos (Sr citizen, WWII, Korea, & RVN Veteran rate) and $35 for BCI-- I figure $60 is a bargain but for me it oughta be FREE!!!!!!!:D ;) :p

A well regulated National Guard, no longer necessary to the security of a free state (it can never happen here, anyway), The right of the people who have never sinned, committed a crime, and who qualify for sainthood, to keep arms locked up seperately from ammunition and out of the view of the public, shall not be infringed.

Shhhhh! Stop giving them free ideas!

Correia,

I may be contacting you in the not too distant future concerning that class. Thanks for the information about costs.

I've got one on the 29th at Lee Kay if you are interested.

hjrocket, I don't know how you could have payed BCI $35 total. As far as I'm aware the fee has not changed since we went to shall issue.

I am interested, but I don't have a handgun. It's at the top of my "saving up to purchase" list.

Personally I think Vermont style would be the way to go.

But then the Utah permit would not ne honored in all the states like it is now.

One of the reasons Utah's concealed weapons permit is accepted in more states than any other is because of our training requirement.

By the way the steering committee nixed the proposal and I got that from Steve and Clark.

There should be more training mandated because apparently it has been my experience that the individual will not take it upon himself to receive the proper instruction or training in the safe defensive use of firearms.

I will do the class for free for anyone in Utah or will travel if you pay expenses. The only thing I ask is that you set up the proper range time at an approved range(one that facilitates live fire from strong side concealment) and that you are willing to shoot at least 500 rounds in various drills, scenarios.

Email me if your interested.

my error

Correia:
I was mistaken, just checked my check log for long ago and find that I paid the (gasp) total of $59.00 cash American to BCI. Heck, at my age it's a wonder that I remember anything!!:D :D :p
