Resident with concealed guns scares away robber

ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) - A resident told police he used his concealed gun to chase away a knife-wielding robber in downtown St. George.

The resident suffered a minor cut on his neck, police Lt. Mark Brklacich said.

He said the man had cashed a check at about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at the EZ Cash drive-up window. As he pulled into traffic, he saw a man near a dark SUV waving him over.

Thinking the man was having car problems and needed help, he pulled over.

The resident said the assailant approached him, put a knife against his neck and demanded money

But the resident ''reached down and pulled out his concealed weapon and pointed it toward the suspect,'' Brklacich said.

The robber ran back to his own vehicle and drove away. He remained at large

By not taking that righteous shot. The CCP holder allowed the miscreant to run away to try to steal another day. Next time he may put the knife next to someone without a gun and cut them up. One up his nose would have cut his criminal career short. If the BG heads up north to SLCounty there are lots of folks I know that would have definitely expended a couple of rounds for the good of the community,

We need to be careful when armchair-quarterbacking this one.

If you are seated in a car and you're piece is carried on your right side at 3-4 o'clock, from the time you first start to draw to the time you have your muzzle on target is long enough for the perp to see that you are indeed drawing a gun, turn and start fleeing ... thus no longer be an "imminent threat"

I don't know if you can shoot a fleeing attacker in Utah.

Plus there is always the risk of hitting surroundings or other people. Perhaps he was being responsible by not shooting. I was not there so I don't know.

I got the feeling too that once the gun was presented the perp took off and the victim probably didn't have time to get a shot of anyway.
