i hear all this talk about a utah ccw being better then a "blank" state what make it better i going for my ccw soon and was wonder what one to get?

deal breaker does ohio or utah let you carry a ccw in church? my ex goes to the same church as me "small town" and i just wonder..

thanks

That depends on state's laws, not which permit you have.

For example, in Utah, churches may list themselves as being off-limits to carry, regardless of whether or not someone has a permit. But in Arizona, you can carry in a church if you have a permit. It doesn't matter if it's an Arizona permit or a Utah permit, both of which are valid in the other state.

When you are in a state, you need to be aware of THAT STATE'S laws, not the laws of the state your permit came from, they are two completely separate things. This means you might need to do some homework before you go.

First, check out this site http://www.handgunlaw.us/.

Second, since you live in Ohio, I'd suggest at least getting the Ohio permit. Then depending on what kind of traveling you do, you might want to also get a Utah permit. The Utah permit is recognized in more states.

Third, whether you can carry in church depends on the law of the state you're in, not the state that issued the permit. According to the Handgun Law U. S. website, under Ohio law one can't carry in church unless the church allows it. That would be the case whether the permit is Ohio or Utah.

CCW laws vary by state, and the laws of the state where you are carrying take precedence over the laws of your state of residence, or where the permit was issued from. Since you are an Ohio resident living in Ohio, you must conform to Ohio's CCW laws, regardless of which state permit you hold. The specific Ohio Revised Code is (ORC 2923.126).

ORC 2923.126(B) states:
B) A valid license issued under section 2923.125 or 2923.1213 of the Revised Code does not authorize the licensee to carry a concealed handgun in any manner prohibited under division (B) of section 2923.12 of the Revised Code or in any manner prohibited under section 2923.16 of the Revised Code. A valid license does not authorize the licensee to carry a concealed handgun into any of the following places:
...
(6) Any church, synagogue, mosque, or other place of worship, unless the church, synagogue, mosque, or other place of worship posts or permits otherwise;

So the only legal way to CCW in a church in Ohio is with specific permission from the church itself- that would be the minister, parish, council, whatever the governing body is.

There is no other way to legally carry in a church in Ohio, no matter what state's CCW you hold. If, for example, State "X" allows its residents to carry in a church, if you have a State "X" CCW license, that DOES NOT confer the ability to carry in a church in Ohio.

I advise you to take a look at the website listed in my Location for more details on Ohio's CCW laws.

Depends on whether or not you would be carrying in Pennsylvania or Michigan.

According to handgunlaw.us, both permits are honored by 31 states, but not the same 31 states, and the Utah permit process would cost you about double what the Ohio permit would.

Several states do not honor non-resident licenses, Michigan being one of them. If you get the Utah license instead of the Ohio license, you won't be able to carry in those states.
