I'm thinking of getting a house to get away from it all or perhaps even permanently move from my current very anti-gun city. I was thinking Utah because it's beautiful, I love mountain biking and want to be able to shoot on my own land. What laws are there governing shooting on your land? Are there certain counties better than others? The only thing I want to avoid is very cold weather. Four seasons are great but nothing where the winters are constantly below freezing maybe in the SW corner? Any input is appreciated!

I thought you were asking for volunteers to help you move furniture, and I was trying to think up a good excuse to get out of it.:D

Utah is great. You'll enjoy it, or at least you should.

If you're a mountain biker you may want to look in the Moab area. I can't help you with shooting laws... check with the local area for city limits/regulations. Although the St. George/Washington area is really nice also. Hot in the summer, though. You'll have to get well out of town to find a place without people around, also.

Taking my first trip to Moab this summer and I've looked at the St. George area for weather and it seems like it's like my current city's weather average plus 5 degrees which suits me fine as it's much drier than where I am now (NE region)

Shooting on your own land.

To shoot on your own land you need to make sure you are outside city limits (or perhaps there are some cities without this restriction).

If you are not in a city that restricts discharging of a firearm and on your own land, you just need to make sure you are at least 600 feet from an occupied building or barn (or have permission from the owner). You can't shoot across a road, but you can shoot from the side of the road.

Thanks really about it.
