Hey guys,
Ove the summer, I'm going to be in Ann Arbor, Michigan for 2 months. I'm a resident of VA and have my CCW permit there. I've been having trouble figuring out if there's any sort of reciprocity between the two states? If I can't CC in MI am I allowed to bring a pistol (I'm leaving the others in VA) with me to keep in the apartment? I'm not familiar with gun law in MI (or any local ordnances in Ann Arbor) so any help would awesome. If it's too much of a hassle, I'll just leave it with the others in VA but I guess I'd feel a bit naked with nothing around, haha. Thanks for any advice you can give.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll check out those sources.

Edit: I notice they specificed college dorms as a pistol free zone, I'm assuming the rest of the campus is covered by the no school rule?

In Michigan you can't carry in a college dorm or classroom.

Also, because U of M, MSU, and WSU are chartered in the state constitution they have more powers then other state colleges. This allows them to regulate firearms without being restricted by our state firearms pre-emption law.

I believe the U of M trustees have elected to ban guns on campus completely. This does have the force of law. Be aware that the U of M campus is quite broad and the borders between campus and Ann Arbor can be hard to tell at times.

Trebor,
Thanks for the reply, that's what I thought but just wanted to be sure. I think the pistol will mostly reside in the apartment I just wanted to be sure I didn't need some sort of Michigan pistol license or whatnot.
Thanks again for the help guys!

Hello all, I too will be headed to MI this summer. I was wondering if there would be any issues sending some rounds down range on land owned by my in laws? Rural area outside Jackson, MI.

Thanks in advance for any help!

You'd have to check with the city or township. It depends on local ordinances. Local government is still allowed to regulate discharage of firearms. If it's incorporated, they may have a prohibition. If it's unincorporated, you may be good to go. You'll have to find out exactly what unit of government the land is in and then check with them.
