Not sure if anyone else has heard about his, but 2 days ago Gov. McAuliffe has introduced a new set of gun control bills that he's going to try to push through in 2015:

  1. Prohibit the possession of firearms for persons subject to protective orders...
  2. Prohibit the possession of firearms for misdemeanor domestic violence offenders...
  3. Curtail handgun trafficking by reinstating the one handgun a month law... I thought that the 1 gun per month restriction was still in places except for CCW holders?
  4. Revoke concealed handgun permits for parents delinquent on child support payments...
  5. Keep handguns out of the wrong hands by closing the gun show loophole...
  6. Give Virginia State Police authority to process voluntary background check requests...
  7. Make unlawful purchases more difficult by clarifying what information can be displayed by gun show vendors...

Anyone know where the contents of these bills can be found?

Hopefully Midwest is right. Still, it might be good to start a thread in activism when those bills come up for residents to contact their state representatives and urge them to oppose any new gun control.

They said "both houses of VA legislature are solidly republican controlled. his bills will go absolutely nowhere, and are nothing more then a showpiece."

Don't count on this and get complacent. McAuliffe is well aware of the makeup of the legislature, and his plan is to peel off some of the Republican legislators from suburban areas with his "reasonable"-sounding proposals. The real audience for the proposals is suburban swing voters, who are not knowledgable about guns but are viscerally afraid of them. Their (Republican) legislators will listen to them, or risk losing their seats. Therefore, the pro-gun side needs to do something about educating those voters.

I found out about this from the njgunsforum.com .

The only link I got is a yahoo link

.
The njgunforums" site is private, and the post in question is password protected, so I can not view it. I believe Republicans only hold a 1 seat over Democrats in the Senate.

To address Styx's original question: The one gun per month is NO LONGER LAW in Virginia. This is just one of the many articles that showed up after google/bing'ing the topic. The below link had the least pop-up and extra garbage advertisements. The link's date is "February 28, 2012".

http://www.13newsnow.com/story/news/2014/09/05/14752734/

From the above:
RICHMOND--Gov. Bob McDonnell has signed a bill that repeals a law limiting individual handgun purchases to one per month, passed in 1993 when Virginia was a haven for gun runners.

McDonnell's signature is no surprise. He had earlier expressed support for the bill, which gained final General Assembly passage on Feb. 15.

The signing comes after McDonnell met with families of people killed or injured in the April 2007 shooting rampage at Virginia Tech, the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. The families had hoped to persuade him to veto the bill.

The law was a major legislative legacy of Democratic former Gov. L. Douglas Wilder, passed when Virginia was a favorite armory for East Coast criminals.

That's what I originally thought to be the case, but I recently attended a CCW permit class with a friend at a bobsgunshop in which the owner/instructor told the class that it was illegal. I assumed he knew more than me. I've had my handgun permit for years, so I figure he was correct, and I never had a problem because the law excepted me...

Though the proposed bills face an uphill battle in the short term, they are consistent with McAuliffes long held views (universal background checks, AWB, and one gun a month). And the proposed bills may be part of a longer term strategy

  1. They are more likely intended to start a divisive dialogue again in VA, which could put some conservatives/moderates on the fence on this issue in several districts. Let's not do Rep vs. Dem here - there are 2A Democrats in the VA legislature who could come under pressure (remember Ward Armstrong (D)? - pro-2A with an NRA "A" rating... he got voted out in 2011).
  2. The demographic and voting composition of Virginia continues to change. A governor like McAuliffe would have been unthinkable a few decades ago in VA. A few years from now, VA could go the way of Colorado ... Populous northern VA might as well be in MD or NJ ...

Bottom line, the anti-2A community is taking a much more strategic, organized, and longer-term approach.

Get the items back on the agenda, split the legislature, keep groups like MDA in a high profile, and potentially push these bills through ... maybe not this year, or the next, but ...

Relating to my reply of one gun per month not being on the books since 2012.

Styx, it worries more when those in the business of firearms instruction spout bad info. Even when it was in effect, the "one gun per month" law had a specific exemption for those with a Virgina CHP (concealed handgun permit). I don't like to use Washington Post as my source, but it listed all the exemptions right there. The article is dated April 20, 2012.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/opini...-in-virginia/2012/04/20/gIQAhVMKWT_story.html

● Law enforcement and corrections officers.

● Licensed private security companies.

● Anyone who had a weapon stolen or lost within 30 days of its purchase.

● Anyone making a one-for-one gun trade.

Anyone with a concealed-carry permit (about 278,000 people).

● Anyone granted an exemption by the State Police following an enhanced background check.

● Antique firearms sales, and sales by a collector of curios and relics.

However, the Washington Post article has a reminder that there is an ATF reporting requirement for multiple handgun purchases.

http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/licensees-conduct-of-business.html

Q: As a licensed dealer, must I advise ATF if I sell more than one handgun to an individual?

A: If you sell or dispose of more than one handgun to any non-licensee during a period of 5 consecutive business days, the sale must be reported on ATF Form 3310.4,

What is the purpose of #1 and #2? According to my understanding of current gun control laws, and my personal experience, people subject to protective orders and domestic violence offenders are already prohibited from possessing firearms...

Of course, I was fully expecting him to try to push through some of those laws, given his stance on the subject. I think he will fight an uphill battle given our current legislature, but not necessarily.

Please forgive me if I am in error, but can a Governor actually introduce legislation in VA? As the executive, i was under the impression that a member of the legislature must introduce and new legislation, and the Governor can either sign it into law or veto it...

The governor can propose legislation (just as the president can, on the federal level). It's easy enough to get a member of his party in the legislature to formally introduce the bill.

McAwful is an old clinton era politician. He made millions on a company called Global Crossing, then BAILED just before it imploded and thousands of investors lost everything. He's also a fanatic anti-gun zealot. I feel sorry for the good people of Virginia. They're in for a long battle with this fruitcake

The bright side is that in Virginia, the governor is limited to a single 4-year term. The thing that's of paramount importance to McAuliffe is that he be in office in 2016, when his buddy Hillary Clinton runs for president and he can help swing the state in her direction. Everything else, including guns, is secondary for him.
