VA Governor "orders" no open carry in state parks

So Va chooses to Ban STATE Parks but they cannot enforce this ban on FEDERAL Parks.

Is that correct?

Here is something else to consider. What of the Battlefields in the area? Those are under the National Park Service right?

Hungry Seagull: "What of the Battlefields in the area? Those are under the National Park Service right?"

No. Virginia contains literally hundreds of Civil War battlefields, and dozens and dozens of Revolutionary War battlefields. Almost all are in private hands. The battlefields of Confederate victories tend to get more attention in Virginia, and a few are conserved, but major Union victory battlefields frequently are targeted for development. Cedar Creek turned the tide of the Shenandoah campaign, but it is wide open to relic hunters. As are many other Virginia battlefields. The Wilderness still contains unrecovered human (and horse) remains -- and they are not too difficult to find. Most recently, Walmart has been trying to build a Superstore on part of the Wilderness battlefield:

Even the major Maryland battlefields like Monocacy and Antietam are nearly entirely in private hands. The Antietam state park contains only some of the monuments and a few landmarks, but most of the casualties occurred on what today is still a private cornfield full of relics.

Gettysburg is the only major public park on an American battlefield, if one excludes Bunker Hill, which park is not located anywhere near the actual battlefield.

They're not banning State parks, just open carry. You can still carry concealed in both State and National parks with permit. For now.

Ok I am a west coaster. How do you pronounce Antietam. I read the book "Confederates in the Attic". Good book and I saw a couple of names I had no idea how to pronounce.

Sorry for being off topic.

Looks like he's taking lesson on governance from Maryland's lawmakers....

"There's no law prohibiting us from doing this, so we're going to to do it."

Virginia used to follow the right way....

"There's no law authorizing the government to do this, so they can't."

"An-tee-tam"

For 50+ years about all I've heard is either An-teetum or An-teedum. It seems to depend whether you're from east of the Blue Ridge or over in the Valley, but who knows. And Staunton is pronounced Stan-ton. And Bumpass is pronounced Bumpus. And then there's Buena Vista. Nevermind.

But Gov. Kaine is such a nice friendly guy. ;) I know some of his neighbors. :banghead: They're great folks, just Democrats.

No surprise here about the Gov. Remember when he was Mayor of Richmond and spent our tax dollars on buses to the Million Mom March? He had to drum up private contributions to pay it all back.

Sharpsburg.

Sorry, I'm a Yankee, but having lived in MD for five years and having explored much of the area around Antietam/Sharpsburg, I just couldn't resist.

I used to call that field Dunkard's Church or Burnside Bridge as a child.

Burnside Bridge had all the infantry try to cross in front of Cobb's Georgians while the water was only about a foot deep.

I wont even try to spell how I pronounce the field names because of accent. English is my second language and it's very arnie like.
