Virginia's 1 hangun a month is going,going.....

Not quite gone yet.So when McDonnell sign the repeal, will it expire immediately or on July 1,2012?

Those of us with a Virginia CHP already enjoy being exempt from this, but it needs to go away. I applaud the action.

I got an emaol from VCDL.

The Senate just passed the repeal of One Handgun a Month by 21 to 19!

The House had already passed it. The Governor said he would sign such a bill, so barring something truly bizarre happening, the One Handgun a Month repeal will go on to become law in the next month or so and will become effective on July 1st.

We will continue to watch the One Handgun a Month bills as they now flow through the opposite House.

The albatross is almost dead.

Ah. A sudden influx of people from the three-digit side of the IQ bell curve, do you mean?

Not necessarily.

Just more republicans.
Actually, it's some of both. To be clear on things, yes, the Republicans took a lot of seats in the last election, but we have a bunch of good Democrats in Western Virginia, as far as gun laws are concerned.

I'll accept that answer. After all, it was the western Democrats that helped us out on the 1-gun a month rule.

I resent the one gun a month rule. That gets expensive after a few months!
I see what you did there :D

Now the question is how to afford more than one per month...

Bingo ... I just bought my one gun per year allowance at this point. But, huzzah for fellow Virginian's who have the cash!

Maybe I could buy more firearms if they introduced a new jobs creation bill - give tax credits to gun purchasers to stimulate the economy by creating more jobs in the firearms manufacturing field. Guess that would have to be constrained somehow to "domestic" manufactured guns for domestic job creation.

Centerfire Systems has some "gunsmith special" Tokarevs for 75$
Classic arms has fully operational Tokie's for like, 175$.
..................Polish Radoms for 160$ something.

Thats a start for you :D

I just read this quote from one of my local legislators, and my jaw just dropped from the arrogance and prejudice against gun owers/collectors

From the Washington Times (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/feb/6/va-senate-votes-repeal-gun-month-law)

Senate Democratic Leader Richard L. Saslaw of Fairfax noted that if a person bought one gun a month, every month, for the past 20 years, they would have amassed a cache of 240 handguns.

“If you need more than 240 handguns, I submit something’s wrong with you,” he said. “Something has gone terribly wrong in your life.”
.

Saslaw is also one of the idiots who killed a Castle Doctrine bill in the VA Senate Justice Committee almost exactly one year ago. :banghead:

I'm not surprised he said that. First, he's a Democratic Party member from Fairfax. Second, a lot of people think he's an idiot.

John

Apparently if we need more than 1 handgun a month, or if we need 240 hanguns, there is something really wrong with us

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/nat...virginia-lawmakers-see-no-point-in-limit.html

Sen. Richard L. Saslaw, a Democrat who opposes the bill, said allowing people to buy more than one handgun a month wouldn’t make Virginia any safer. Anyone who had bought a handgun a month under the current law would have amassed 240 guns during the law’s 20-year span.

If you need more than 240 handguns, then I would submit something's wrong with you," he said. "Something's gone wrong in your life."

Wonder if he says that about people who collect commenorative spoons, or china animals, maybe Jay Leno is off his rocker because he has so many cars.

Sounds to me something is wrong in Saslaw's life to make him such a bitter and petty person.

edit: DOH...someone already liked that in this thread

also edit: a moose once bit my....

I mean yeah the one handgun a month bill probably kept me from spending plenty of my hard earned money, but it sucked when a local shop in town had a 2 week sale with several handguns I really wanted. I am thinking the Virginia FFLs are overjoyed that this bill will be repealed.

State Sen. Janet Howell (D-Fairfax) appeared tonight (2-10-12) on Rev. Al Sharpton's "Politics Nation" on MSNBC and said that now, after the repeal of the one-gun-a-month limit, "people will travel to Virginia and buy as many guns as they want." I guess she never heard of the federal law that requires non-FFL handgun buyers to be residents of the same state as the seller. I used to like Sen. Howell, but not any more.

Strange law in the first place it sounds like. Does it mean that you can buy one gun at the first of each month 12 months per year? Or can you save up your months and buy 12 in December.
Hard to believe a politician said anything on Rev. Al's show that was untruthful! he rarely says anything that IS truthful.

I hope that guy doesn't come down to Alabama and ask to see my wifes shoes! She has waaaay more than 240 pair.

You could (can) only buy 1 gun in a 30 day period. CHP holders were exempt

I'm glad to see this one repealed. Although there is a bill on the table that will get rid of the need for CHP all together in VA, and I know this may be an unpopular opinion on this forum, but I think thats a bad idea.

I like the fact that you have to give enough of a s**t to bother to get the permit to carry. I'd rather not have every untrained idiot with a handgun carrying it around in the elastic of their sweatpants.

VA is also trying to get a bill passed that will eliminate backround checks for CHP holders, that one sounds good to me too.
