Yeah I am dead serious.. I don't care about the sanctity of the laws of lawless and corrupt countries. When you are in a place infested with thugs, corrupt police and you are a prime target, I think it should be nothing less than common courtesy. I think the COsta Rican government has a better example to set for these countries. In Costa Rica, foreigners, with proper permits can carry guns with them. However, the crime and corruption in Jamaica is many times more than that in Costa Rica.
Go and compare the murder rate of Kingston, Jamaica to Houston.. Kingston has the highest murder rate and most dangerous slums in the world. And, in Houston, I can carry a gun to protect myself and I am not advertised to all the local thugs that I am a dumb tourist, not knowing my way around town; i.e., easy pickings.
Even The Bahamas is under siege as the criminals are becoming more ruthless and more and more tourists on cruise ships are getting robbed at gun point. Why not rob all the rich American tourists, when they are unarmed, helpless and wealthy! Easy pickings. If you don't believe me you can read news articles about the growing crime problem against tourists in places like THe Bahamas.
Also, I have no problem with law-abiding foreigners being allowed to carry a weapon for personal protection as long as they notify the appropriate authorities in advance. Foreign tourists are always more of a target than locals, considering they don't know their way around the place and don't always speak the language/dialect properly. Therefore, foreign tourists IMO, would be even greater candidates for CCW.
