Vacationing to Wisconsin

If you go to google and type "Wisconsin gun laws", you'll get, for starters:

This site summarizes the Wisconsin statues. In the article it claims that (1) only police officers can conceal carry (2) Wisconsin law does not prohibit open carry of a loaded or unloaded gun, but the person may risk being arrested and charged with disorderly conduct because said person displayed behavior which threatens the public peace or safety (3) firearms may only be transported unloaded and in a case. There's more in the article to read.

This url is from the Wisconsin State Law Library. The about url is second link in this page and there are several more links that should prove useful.

Hope this tells you what you need to know. Not what you wanted to hear, I'm afraid.

I'd like to revisit Wisconsin, but I don't spend my vacation dollars in states that practice anti-Second Amendment bigotry.
Be glad you aren't giving your tax dollars to the state.

Ok, that is what I though you would say. I just figured we are in America and I must have been screwing something up. I guess I am in disbelief.

I have to travel there to visit my grandparents. Let me get this straight. The police have no duty to protect me and I am not allowed to protect myself....so that leaves....

What tragic event led to the current state of affairs in Wisconsin?

I just vacationed at Wisconsin Dells this past summer with the family. My research turned up the same info. The only thing I carried was a SOG Topo Meridian folder.

yeah, I am going to play golf in River Falls, Wis. this morning...So, I have to take off my carry piece before the border, take the mag and chamber round out, put it in a carry case and put it where I can't get to it or on the dashboard in plain sight...we are neighbors to 2 states that absolutely suck about CC....Wisconsin and Iowa.........Wisconsin had a shot at ending their problem but instead re-elected that clown Doyle, for some reason..I can't imagine him being re-elected with all the sportsmen in that state...

Previous poster are mostly correct. The State Statute actually says "peace officer" which is interesting because from my research the term "peace officer" is a little bit more loosely defined then just LEOs. It seems that in WI even some types of building inspectors could be classified as "peace officers".

Bottom line don't carry in WI, I wouldn't recomend open carry unless you have a copy of the WI Supreme Court Hamden decision expressly stating that open carry is 100% lawful with you in writing. Also you will be handcuffed and shoved in the back of a squad car so it probably isn't worth the hassle.

Go visit them. Weigh what you think the odds are you'll need the piece vs. the trouble you'll be in if caught, then make a big boy decision. Do NOT let your decision stand in the way of visiting your relatives.

WI has a long, strong, pinko commie tradition. As a result, we've got nice libraries and pretty decent public schools, but no CCW. 650,000 deer hunters this past weekend, so there's no shortage of firearms. More beer and brandy than you can imagine.... It's a weird place sometimes

Have made several trips there; discreet, low profile, and carrying. Served this country in the military and spent a career as an LEO. Not about to roll over and play dead to placate the wusses of this world.

I suppose I could quote Aquinas--"An unjust law is no law."
