Hello, new member, so I apologize if this is in the wrong spot- mods, feel free to to move. I'm looking at a Valmet rifle, but don't know if this is a good deal. Any input is appreciated. He said he's willing to meet, so I can lay eyes on it too. Thanks!

"Valmet M-76 .223 99+% wood stock w / original box : manf 3/25/86 sight card, birth certificate, rifle manual, muzzel cap, cleaning rod, sling, 30rd mag (oem),10rd ?.Org. brass deflector. Original bayonet. I was asking $2,200.00.Loks unfired.I never shot. Person I got it from did not. realily nice rifle."

I don't pretend to know much about the Valmet other than general website reading, but if I was after a 'better' AK rifle, the VEPR or VZ 58 would be much higher on my list.

The terrible grammar and punctuation in the description sends up a red flag anyway.

Thanks, that's kinda where my head was at too. It's actually a trade for my M1A SOCOM II with extras that I'm looking to get rid of. I have no interest in the Valmet, personally, but I went on gunbroker and the two or three I found on there were priced surprisingly high. I'm guessing it's just collectors value, but I'm completely ignorant when it comes to this platform, so I wasn't sure. Thanks!

You would be paying collector prices. I doubt if it would really be worth it to you. Valmets are nice, but 2200 clams will buy at least a few shootable AKs. Not worth it to me...

VERY good rifles, I sold several of them NEW back in the day for $679.00. lol

I still have a few NEW top covers for them, that accept the Valmet quick attach scope mounts... Bet those covers aren't easy to find!

I too have owned a few Valmets ... They are my favorite flavor of AK but $2,200 for a wood stock is a bit much ... nib with the bayonet I think $1,700 - $1,800 is going to be top of the market.

A few months back I bought a LNIB tube-folder with 1-15rnd & 1-30rnd mags the original owners manual for $2,100 and finally found a new bayo for $200 ... Mags aren't that hard to come by but you'll pay dearly for original steel WARNING make sure the seller isn't passing off Galil mags ... they fit but the feed angle isn't right and can knock the bullet back into the casing ... and they're a lot cheaper when bought as Galil mags.

Also, AIM was selling some Valmet poly/waffle mags for $34.95 but were sold out within a few hours so they may be showing up on Gunbroker for 2x that in the near future.

Now if I could only find a tube-folder in 7.62x39 with the cheese-grater handguards - a unicorn I let slip by me for $800 some 20 years ago :banghead:

It's a collectible, so the premium price is built into the equation. I don't know if the full $2200 he's asking it what that premium looks like these days, but the last one I saw at a gun show was maybe eight years ago and that guy was wanting upwards of $1000 for it back then (I'm recalling $1500, but it's been a while -- only recall it as well as I do because I've always wanted one, myself, but his price was too rich for my budget).

The Valmet 76 in .223 is an excellant rifle. This is my personal best AK type rifle. I bought one when they were first imported. I bought several mags and spare parts at that time. The only weak part is the firing pin. Replacement can be very hard/expensive to get. I was lucky as I bought firing pins, extractors and mags back in the day. I always have lots of spare parts for all my guns.
