What would my milled Norinco that is unfired and appears new be worth.
Wood is also excellent. I bought it around 1991 or 1992 as I remember.
I also bought three others at the time one of them being a paratrooper
model and remember paying a premium or extra anyway for the milled
Norinco SKS. Any ideas would be appreciated.

About $400-$500 at current market values, 6 months ago maybe $700. Most all SKS are milled, stamped ones actually command a premium due to relative rarity.

I paid $400 for an unfired Norinco in excellent condition back in January. The man told me he knew he could get more for it at the time but he didn't want to charge panic pricing because he didn't like paying panic pricing. He was a nice old man.

Really ? The other two I own (sold one to a friend) are both stamped.
one of which is a "paratrooper" model

How much of a premium does a stamped model AK command ?

For what its worth, comparing the three SKS rifles, one can certainly
tell a difference between the milled SKS and the two stamped ones.
The fit and finish is of much higher quality on the milled Norinco SKS

Picked up a new Norinco SKS in 1992 at a gun show for a hundred bucks. Checked my log book and its had exactly 454 rounds through it since then. In 1995 I got a deal ( about $225. IIRC) on an arsenal rebuilt Russian SKS with the laminated stock. That one is still in the safe unfired and I sometimes wonder what that one would be worth these days. Back in the first week of January I picked up SKS #3 at a gun show. A used chinese import,(shoots real good), that cost me $450. plus tax so I guess prices have gone up more than I had thought. These prices were all here in western NY state, (Rochester area). I know prices vary around the country and it would be interesting to see how much they vary; or have they all sort of averaged out nationwide?

Stamped SKS? I don't think I've ever heard of, or seen one, unless the difference is much subtler than a milled vs. stamped AK. If this is the case, what is the thing to look for? I thought I'd bought an example all the commonly encountered variations from the late 80s early 90s when they were typically under $100, except for the Russian ones which commanded an ~50-100% premium.

Everything you need to know about the SKS.

I've owned four Chinese SKS rifles & seen several others personally.
I have never seen a stamped receiver on one.

depends on if it's really a norinco or a chicom SKS that some shop owner calls a norinco because that's the only chinese arms maker they can think of.

There were several smaller plants that turned out "tourist" rifles after the SKS fad caught on, all contracted for or by Norinco & imported here by Norinco.
Those marked Norinco were not necessarily made by Norinco.

Norinco is a huge industrial combine & exporter.

OK.....
Then how does one tell the difference ?

Good question.
The Chinese SKS world is a murky one.

My first, in '88, has government markings. It was imported by Keng's, as I recall. Not "made" by or for Norinco.

I had two others bought later, after the fad got started, that were "tourist models", built strictly for the American market, imported by Norinco.

The later tourist models may have Norinco stampings, may have Norinco papers, typically have pinned barrels instead of threaded barrels.
To the best of my knowledge, Norinco itself did not manufacture any SKS guns. They contracted with small plants inside China & exported the tourist models.

You can check with one of the surplus sites like Gunboards.com and ask around the SKS subforum for more specifics.

I'm not an SKS expert.

"Sksboards.com" even has forums for the Albanian and Romanian varieties.
For specialized advice, many of those guys/gals are also qualified.

Some of their interpretations of 922r can be enlightening.
