I recently "picked" up a 1983 Ruger "security six" revolver, ser# 159-64xxx, stainless steel 4" brl. .357 magnum. The pistol is in great shape, beautiful shine, no scratches, grips look brand new, no wear, barrel clean. the only wear is on the rear sight, the paint on the edges is worn off. the gentleman i got it from said it was only shot 2 times (12 rounds), he also gave me the box of ammunition with 12 rounds missing. I also got a old "police" belt and holster from him, as he was an ex-police officer, 82 years old. sorry, no pictures, the gentleman gave it to me because i shoot twice a week at ranges. He is a close friend of mine and no family. I need a average value for insurance.

Hi Tom,

I'd guesstimate insurance value around the $350 range for one that has hardly been shot. Sounds like you have a really nice friend and a good gun. I've got the 6" version, I can't imagine parting with it. Regards,

Nail

It may be higher depending on where you live. Around here there are few shops and even fewer used guns for sale.
That same revolver would be in the $400-$450 range around here.
I too have the same thing in the 6 in. version and it will be one of the guns that gets handed down to someone when I am dead and gone.
Be sure to treat your neighbor to a very nice meal or something for such a fine gift.

I've been taking him out for dinner almost every week for 2/1/2 years now. A member of my VFW post. Great old friend. Ex-Marine, Iwo-Jima. Rather a surprise for him to do it. He wanted to hand it down to me.

Thomas, men like that are to be admired. I have a friend at church that was on Iwo from beginning to end. Couldn't ask for a better friend. Our WWII vets are getting fewer and fewer. My dad passed away in 2000, he was in the 53rd FA Btn during WWII.

God bless them all.
