I have a Jonathan Browning .50 cal mountain rifle that needs to go! My ex bought it used about 10 years ago. It's in nice (original) condition and shoots good. I have the powder horn, possible bag, etc. to go with it. Any idea what this gun might be worth?

JBMR .50 Cal.

They were discontinued in the early 1980s. They were manufactured in .45, .50, and .54 Calibers. They came with brass or iron furniture. The iron (butt-plate, toe-piece, trigger guard) furniture models had a pewter-tip forend cap.
I've seen mint condition .50 cal. with brass selling for $400 to $550, and mint (with box & papers) iron ones going for up to $800. Browning made some limited editions JBMR that now sell for well over $1.5K.

If your rifle is well cared for and is the Brass furniture model, $500 would sound about right - - if a Iron-model add $50 to $100. BTW - - 2-years ago Cabelas Gun Library listed two JBMRs both with the iron furniture for $750 each . . . they sold almost immediately.

Hope this helps.

I own 6 of these fine rifles . . . all Iron models. Three in .50 cal & three in .54. They are outstanding for a "production" rifle. I hunt extensively with these rifles. From deer to bear. They are VERY accurate. AND NOPE! Don't want to sell any of these sweet-shooters.

If you are interested in seeing this gun, please PM your e-m addy. I can forward that way, but cannot post here. Sorry. The gun is definitely for sale!

A sad story - Browning made very high quality muzzle loaders they were high priced too and most shooters who saw all the cheap guns on the market thought those Brownings were too expensive. So they didn't sell, so Browning stopped making them. After that people realized they were well worth the money but it was too late !!!

Johnathan Browning Mountain Rifle

I have a JBMR in .54 caliber. It is in mint, like new condition. It has been sitting in a display case in my home for the last 15+ years. I have never fired it, but have kept it clean and lubricated. I also have two .44 caliber pistols. One is a Derringer Philadelphia and the other is made by Richland Arms Co. I also have two power horns, one white with a scrimshawed Elk on it and the other is made from an Elk horn. There is also a custom lead ball holder, made of leather, with an Elk horn stopper. All of these things are in new condition and have been in a display case for years. I have pictures that I can send to anyone interested in buying them. I'm asking $1500 for everything, but will split them up if so desired.
