I'm curious what you gents think the street value of a premium grade K98 from Mitchells in excellent condition is worth.

They are heavily refurbished and thus have no collector value as militaria. I think they are probably perfectly good shooters but you are paying for a bunch of refurbishing when you could buy a genuine milsurp that'd probably shoot just as well for less. I don't think anybody thinks they are bad guns.

If you took a foreign mil-surp of dubious and questionable origin to a gunsmith to have it checked out, the costs would probably be a wash.
Mitchell's probably isn't worth it to an expert, but it might be value added for a novice.
I (sadly) own no Mausers. A lot of them come from places where you wouldn't want to drink the water. :p

That's fair.

Nuff said, I think ill just hunt down another M38 6.5x55. Thanks guys.

Mods can close this.

Mitchell's destroys the value of their guns by mixing and matching parts. The resulting guns will often be good shooters and will look great, but they have zero collector's value anymore. You're far better off finding something on Gunbroker.

As a further reason to not do business with them, they buy perfectly good guns for the express purpose of doing this to them, so they're reducing the supply of good collectible guns with their butchering.

If you want a collectible Mauser, you really need to know what you are looking at. Lots of subtle variances mean big $ differences, and there are lots of forgeries of those subtle variances floating around. Personally, I would prefer an unmolested run-of-the-mill shooter from AIM or other reputable establishment. That said, nothing wrong with Mitchell's as long as you understand what you're getting.
