I'm going to see this revolver this evening and I need advice as to its value?

My local gun store said its worth 200-250, that seems low to me. I looked on Gunbroker and found prices more around 350-400. The owner said the gun is 98% (we'll see if my interpretation is the same) and he has the original box and papers, and maybe the cleaning rod.

He hinted he would like to get 300-350. If it is indeed real nice would 300 be a fair offer?

Yes. Super fair. If it's very nice, $350 would be a great deal for you. Even if it's got considerable finish wear, $300 ain't a bad price IMO.

I'm not sure how a snubby effects the price. I've seen 4" versions in nice 95%+ condition range from $225 to $350. There is some value to having the original box IMO. Offer $275 and see where it goes......

Check the recent sales on Gunbroker and/or only look at actions where folks are actually bidding.... IMO there's a lot of overpriced items on Gunbroker.

Model 10 snub

I just bought a Model 10-5 (1962) snub last week. Excellent condition - beautiful gun. An old woman put it on consignment at the gun store. it was her husbands and he passed away. I saw it, went back and bought it.
Here in southwest Ohio, i paid $425 for it. Some may say that may be a little to high but im really glad i snatched it up. I do here they are climbing in value. They dont make the model 10 in a snub anymone. If its in real nice condition i would get it. Im sure you would be happy with it.

I went over to the guy's house, and after some small talk he hands me this blue cardboard box. I open it to find wax paper covering a stunning revolver!

It has been fired, the cylinder shows that, but no wear otherwise.

The bluing is just gorgeous, no wonder you guys rave so much about the old guns from S&W. The box even has all the original paperwork and the little plastic bag with the cleaning brush and rod in it. He stuck with $350, but I wasn't about to take any chance of losing this one. He had a set of pearl stocks on it, and when I told him I have combats on my carry 642 and how much I like them he gave me a new set for the K frame.

The trigger is amazing for someone used to j-frames. My wife was even impressed. So, we now have a new home defense piece.

So, everyone, thanks for the your advice.

$350 and he threw in a new set of grips too?

With the original box and paperwork and I'm assuming you got the pearl grips with it.

I'd say you got a very good deal, I'd be tickled to find a deal like that in my area.
