Instead of reloading, I save my once-fired brass and sell it when I have a decent amount, then recycle the money from that back into buying ammo. Not as cheap as reloading, but it takes less time and cuts down on the cost of ammo in the long run.

Anyway, the guy that used to buy all my brass off me no longer reloads. I'm wondering now, what is a fair price to ask for once-fired brass in moderate-large quantities?

I have 9mm, .38spl, 5.56, and .223.

Input is appreciated. Thanks

The only time I've ever sold brass was several years ago and I took it including a to a local metal recycler. I didn't get much for it as I recall, seems to me I had about 3-4 pounds total and I may have gotten 5 bucks out of it. Someone who reloads might pay more than that if he/she is convinced that it's once-fired brass.

9mm brass is available .02-.05 each and .223/5.56 will run .05-.08.

Prices will vary a bit depending on source and processing but there is a decent amount of brass available in those price ranges. I can't help with .38 Special since it's not a round I shoot.

Ok, thanks guys. I know it's once-fired, because, well, I bought the ammunition from reputable companies and only fired it once since I don't reload.

I have it posted on a few places, so hopefully it sells quickly

Also price will vary if it is cleaned, deprimed.??

On the 223/5.56 are the crimped primers?? Best way to find out is a search of the web to see what the big brass resellers are asking.

JMHO but to me 9mm is next to nothing, probably just sell it for scrap to the recycle place (so much of it around)

There is a LGS in our area that gives ~ $2.50 per pound for brass. He tumbles it, bags it, sells it in his store.

If you buy ammo in bulk online, another option is with Freedom Munitions (www.freedommunitions.com). They give a credit toward your purchase for brass returns. I haven't done the brass trade-in with them, & I just got some bulk 9mm re-manufactured ammo from them so I'm just trying them about myself.

Plenty of people on the site selling brass for comparison. You do need to be more specific about "moderate to large" quantities, as those words mean many different things.

The brass isn't cleaned or deprimed. I guess the prices I'm asking are reasonable because I've had a few people message me about it. So far, most people want me to ship it though, which I won't do.

If there's anybody in the Lebanon, PA area that wants any of this brass and can meet in person, message me on here and I'll hook you up with a special THR price

Shipping it in the small or medium flat rate boxes from USPS and add the cost to final price. Get postal money order for payment and trade that in for cash at post office before sending the brass. Simple really. Just tape the container seams good.

Why can't you ship it???

As Frogo stated send it USPS Flate rate boxes for $5 or $12 depending on size of box, Put it in a plastic bag and shove it in a box.

I realize in theory it isn't hard… but most people don't want to send me some form of money with no guarantee that they'll get the brass in return. I know I'm an honest guy, but they don't. I also don't know how to use paypal, so I'd rather just avoid the hassle of shipping altogether.

It won't take long to sell. I have it posted on a local Facebook buy/sell/trade firearms site with 17,000 members :what:. I've never had anything take more than a few days to sell there.

To those who asked (not that it really matters) I have 931 pieces of 9mm brass, 600 pcs of 5.56, 40 pcs of .223, and 257 pcs of .38spl.

I'm asking $35 for the 9mm, $35 for the 5.56/.223, and $15 for the .38spl. Or $75 for everything. As of now I have a sale pending for this Friday

Thanks again for all your help!

People buy and sell very expensive guns online and send money orders, checks back and forth. Think of the money on the gun auction sites like gun broker.

Folks on forums like this are honest and ethical. Sure there are sometimes a bad apple but they do not last long and are few and far between.

I am sure many of use here have sold items to people we have no idea who they are.

how much brass are we talking?

I reload both 9mm and .223 :D

I've seen locally, pistol brass sell for 50-65 1000pcs and .223 little higher, pretty much what everyone else is saying.

Once again, rule 3, I just don't want to have to bother with shipping. I don't care if it's easy or works elsewhere, I just don't want to have to deal with it. Mkay?

No problem. Just trying to help. I read it as you can't do but I see you said "won't do" Limit your market to your town.

Don't take this wrong but just a few years ago 9mm brass was selling for $10 for 1000. Now all of a sudden it's $40!!!

Who, what, when and why did brass go so high? I just won't pay these stupid prices for brass!

I really don't know. I have an FFL buddy that trades me brass, any brass, for retail components. I don't honestly know what the barter rate is, I haven't paid much attention, but he does it by the pound I think. I have seen a couple online companies that offer something similar, also by the pound, for store credit. So maybe take a gander online and see who offers such a deal, some even trade for RF brass.

I'm a member of a reloading group on Facebook, and one person advertised some 357mag once-fired brass, cleaned and tumbled, for $0.20 per case. I posted that Starline had 357mag brass in stock, for $0.16 (qty 500) for NEW brass. My post was immediately deleted. Oh well.

Facebook prices run from great to ***. Several of those groups will delete your posts or ban users for undermining their brass business.
