hi guys,

a fella is offering to sell me this s&w revolver. may i have some opinions on the price?

near mint 4" 27-2 in blue in the original box, pinned and recessed, red ramp sight, target hammer, target trigger. his price is $650.

i have asked him if the "original" box is wood or cardboard, he hasn't replied yet.

so could we give price ezstimates two ways? one for the wooden presetation case and then the other with the cardboard box.

i know the 27-2 4" barrels were only made for a few years, some were pinned and recessed, others were pinned but not recessed and still others were recessed but not pinned (whew) to my understanding. people call them "transition" guns.

what is a fair price for a pinned and recessed or do you think it makes a difference?

thanks,

mike

I think that might be a little high even for CA. If it is an S prefix serial numbered gun it might be worth it. Pretty much model 27 in near mint condition are running $450 to $600 unless it is something special like nickel, a pre 27 or an S prefix. I don't collect boxes so I cannot comment on those items.

P&R went out with the -3 models so it should be a P&R revolver. Even if it comes with the presentation case and tools I wouldn't give no more than $500, but people are getting up to $600 for them.

If it's in the wood box I think that's on the fair to little high side (however, I've seen them go for more). I saw a 8 7/8in barreled one at auction recently go for $600 (not sure about the box, if it had one)

It it doesn't have the wood box or isn't in near mint condition then I think he's a bit high.

I gave $400 for my Model 27 with a 8 7/8in barrel. It came in the wood presentation box with stock grips. The fellow I bought it from had a 4 inch P&R Model 27 as well for the same price. Sometimes I could kick myself........

$650 is a bit high, but then you can never pay to much for a finely made firearm, you can just pay it to soon. In 5 years Model 27s will sell for that, I have little doubt.
