I saw an ad in Shotgun News and wanted to pass it along.

This sure looks like it's an official HK ad,with the name,logo and address on the bottom..

I know that alot of you think that this is an "ugly duckling", but I thought that some of you would like to know.

OBTW, actual retail price is more like $1000.00..

The SL8-1 would be an excellent buy if it wasn't for the fact that the magwell is permanently neutered for 10-round single-stack magazines. Other than that, the G36 system is a great weapon system, superior to the AR in many respects. $1200, OTOH, can get you a nice Bushmaster and a whole bunch of 30-rounders, and a couple of cases of ammo on top of it.

I know they offer magwell conversions for the SL8-1, but that just adds insult to injury...having to butcher your brand new $1200 rifle and having to spend another couple hundred bucks for the privilege.

There's nothing quite like having to take a "Dremel" and perform surgery on a $1200 rifle. That,or have someone take a milling machine to it..

I think that the ad is misleading. The reason the HK91 went up so drastically in value was because of all of the stupid bans and importation regulations.

The SL8 was neutered to get around those laws.

While I'd love to have a SL8-1, I won't buy one because of the mag issue. I have a hard time believing that their value will jump because they've discontinued it in the US.

I think Correia is mostly right for the bulk of the increases. HK did have something to do with it too though. There was a time you could deal direct with them as an individual, then they changed to "dealer only" overnight. I called one time after the change to get something and was asked if I was a dealer and said no, and was promtly hung up on. They were always nice and pleasant prior to that. I think they were trying to go for the strictly police and military markets at the time, or so it seemed, they definitly didnt seem to be "consumer friendly". Their prices rose about this time too, and this was prior to the bans. I paid about $425 for my P7M13 back in the early 80's, it wanst banned and they now go for well over $1000. The best deal I got was the HK94 for $450 in '85, for $350 more I had the MP5 conversion done. Boy I wish I knew then what I know now, I'd have bought up everthing in sight! Even my 91 was only $600, and that was after they started to go up. I understand the supply and demand thing, but when you look at what they are, they are not worth what they ask. I wouldnt spend what they want for a 91 or 94, let alone a transferable MP5 for what they want now. A real one to a police department is only about $900 or so, and even that seems pricey. Even the P7's are way out of line . The newer guns shown in the add definitly are not worth the money they are asking, even if your just collecting and putting them away. The ones I've handled didnt impress me for a shooter.

HK is no longer accepting orders for them from dealers.

I think the price will go up from what it is now, but not anything astronomical.
