Varget - What Do You Use it for?

It will work in any of my rifles with any bullet but it doesn't work well in any of them.

You can add the .375 H&H Mag to the list too.

This thread reminds me of the time I bought 4lb of VV 120 and 2lb of VV 130 because it was cheap and available. I had no idea as to what I would use it for but at $19 per pound I figured I should buy it.

I bought a pound of Varget when it first came out. I have found that it doesn't work better in any of the calibers that I reload than the powders I had already used to develop good accurate loads.
Adequate but not better.

.223 (AR and Savage 12FTR), .243, .308, 30-06.

It works well enough in everything I shoot to use it exclusively. My Savage 12FTR and Rem 700 Tactical .308 both shoot cloverleafs with it and the others shoot as well as I can with iron sights. Light 30-06 loads shoot very well in my Garand as well.

My buddy uses it in his .270 with great results. I've been working up a load with my 7mm-08 using 139 gr Nosler BTs. So far it looks like a toss up betwen H-380 and Varget. I'm thinking about going with the Varget simply beause of the advertisement and testimonials on it's stability in temp swings.

I use it for 223, 22-250, 243, 308 and 7.5x55 Swiss. I have about 20 lbs so looking for additional uses. Have not tried it in 270, 30-30 or 30-06 but may have to give it a try.

I use Varget for .308 Win. with very good results for a 1:12 22" bolt action

I use it for .243 Winchester and .30-06 (150gr).

There are better powders for heavier bullets in .30-06, but Varget works OK for me with 150gr bullets, including a Garand.

Wow. You call $19 lb cheep? How much is new powder? For the last year I've been seeing some at that price & refuse to buy it. I have paid that or almost that for a few lbs but most of the powder I have bought in the last three years has been between $4-10 lb. I have a nice stock so if it is that high I'll leave that to the grand kids to buy there self. I bought enough that they even paid half the shipping & Hazmat.
